I have 12,000 miles on my 09 Max and have never seen any exhaust stains on the bumper. I did repaint the black on the exhaust because the paint peeled off.

I am surprised these exhaust stains are showing up on your dark slate, but not my white. But maybe by the time I have 12K, I might see them too.

If nobody else here is getting those stains, maybe you are idling longer than normal? Or maybe your engine or ignition system is out of tune? Or a trace of oil may be leaking around your rings or through a gasket and into your exhaust system? Anyone here have any ideas?

To the OP, take it to the dealer, they should clean it up for you.

I have 31.9K now and no stains or blow-by. I would definitely talk to my service rep about this.

That's pretty darn abrasive on a microscopic level. I don't think I'd want to use that on my clearcoat.....

Test for yourself.

Get it wet and rub it a few times on your exposed wrist and see what it does to your skin.

On second thought, trust me, do NOT do that. It's pretty nasty... Take my word.

The Mr. Clean bug and tar remover works really well on removing things off the car safely. I agree the magic eraser is pretty aggressive.
