Adding Factory Spoiler after the fact

Has anybody added the factory spoiler after they purchased the car? If so who and how much? That was the only option by SV-Premium Pacakge did not have at the time.

I see on mynissanparts.com that a cover for the Center Mounted Stoplight in the window is required and some sort of wiring harness.

How many holes will be drilled into the trunk lid? Does anyone have a pic of any install instructions? Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

The factory spoiler is getting put on my car as soon as it shows up at the dealership. I got a premium also but wanted the spoiler, it is listed as an option online, but they didn't have any on the lot with it besides the sport packaged ones. I'm not sure how much they charged me for it, it got bundled in with the total price and I couldn't find a separate value for it on my paperwork, MSRP is $370. They are also installing it free when it arrives so I don't know about that either. I would guess it will be 2-4 holes in the trunk to install, not sure about all the wiring but I think they remove the brake light in the rear window completely. I'll let you know more once its done if no one else answers.

I will not be installing a spoiler on my '09 Premium, as spoilers are for those under age 75. But I have seen the '09 spoilers discussed here, and the factory spoilers are held down with three bolts and double-side sticky pads. Yes, the regular high-mounted brake light is removed, and the place where it sits is closed off. That is part of the normal installation procedure for adding the spoiler. Everything required should be enclosed in the box containing the spoiler. I don't remember the price of the spoiler or the installation. Someone else here will know.

Ok thanks guys, still debating to should I put it on or not. I had sold all of the parts I demodded off my old car, and have $500+ in hand, so I thought this might be my first appearance mod.

Is it necessary to remove the brake light in the back glass to install the spoiler? I have been contemplating putting one on as well. Thanks!

No you don't have to remove it but it would look better IMO. I've seen altimas with factory spoilers installed after the fact that had a brake light built into it and still had the interior brake light on the inside that lighted up. Just looks weird to me.

Go to the post directly under this one to see the pic of my car with both Spoilers mounted or use this link: http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...-spoilers.html

I can tell you that you do not need a wiring harness because everything comes with the kit to do it yourself, it does require the drilling of 4 holes (3 for to secure the Spoiler to the trunk lid and 1 very small one for the Wiring for the center light) plus it already has double sided tape outlined on the bottom of the Spoiler to help secure it in place.

I wish I had taken pictures of the install so that I can show you but it really simple and doesn't require a lot of tools, time or mechanical know how.

How this helps.

I had the OEM spoiler added to my Premium equipped Max after the fact.

I had the dealer install it and got hooked up. They installed it for cheaper than most will pay just for the parts.

It completely sets of the tail end of these cars as there's really nothing going on back there without it. The LED brake light is a nice touch too.

Well gang, I got a quote from dealership for $300 Installed. Does that sound reasonable since the parts alone on mynissanparts.com would be $333.

In reading your post and thinking about it, I think you have actually answered your own question. They are paying you $33 just so they can have all the fun of doing the install. Cool!

Yes, sounds good. My dealer proposed about $425 for a spoiler with installation.

Depends you can get the same spoiler on ebay for $125. I install my own and it was fairly easy. As for the rear window brake light, i left that on and all i did was wire the spoiler light to the rear window brake light. Now i have 4 brake lights...hehe

Yup, that's a good price. OEM is the only way to go on this one IMHO.

Go cheap on q tips, NOT on mods.

Where did you order it from? I got mine off of Ebay for $125 and the shipping was free.

I don't care for the Spoilers without the LED Brake Lights in them, I think they look a little too plain/vanilla for my taste. I think the Brake Light integrated into the Spoiler compliments the red LED tail lights and looks really cool, especially at night.

bk2k3max care to share who you get it from on ebay??? is it painted or unpainted one? can you post some pic to the spoiler when you get it especially the bottom section and what come with it.

I want the spoiler but don't really want to drill the trunk. I like the one with led light. may be i just mount it with 3M double tape super strength and not wire it. but want to see the bottom of the spoiler to make sure if it can be done.

Just call me B.K. for short.

I'm at work right now and don't have access to Ebay (stupid Gov't Computers) but I'll check it later and let you know. I already have my Spoilers (I have the trunk and the upper Lip Spoiler) mounted on my car.

They do not come painted, mine costed me $80 to get it done and it looks like a stock part for the car. I don't see why you'd get the one with the light if you do not have the intent to use it.

I think the light compliments the taillights and makes it look really cool, especially at night, you may as well get the one without the light if you don't want to drill but drilling is required for the version with the stoplight embedded.

The bottom section just has the spoiler (unpainted) the mounting screws and wiring harness to connect it to your taillights and it also has the double sided tape already mounted on it. I hope this helps, sorry I don't have pics of how it looked when I got it in the mail but you can go to the other post regarding Spoilers and see how mine's look. Look for my post, hopefully the pics will still show up:

I just got the factory spoiler installed today. Its looks perfect. They did have to add an extra wiring harness and removed the brake light in the rear window and put on a cap that matches the interior.

I'm not sure how much it cost because I told them I wanted a spoiler when I bought the car, I got the premium package, so they said they would just include it. I thought it would be the MSRP $370 but I just looked back over all my paper work and it seems they just gave it to me "free" since it was not listed anywhere and I did not have to pay anything after it was installed.

I would recommend getting one from a dealership and not ebay since you know the paint will match exactly and theirs will include the wiring harness and cap. You could probably get it for less than $370 or at least talk them into free installation or something, its definately worth a shot before buying something off the internet.

If you purchase the Nissan OEM spoiler then it is already painted to match your exact paint code.

FYI: The one I bought from Ebay doesn't come painted, it is all black and it had the Wiring Harness with the cap (matched) already included. As far as painting it to match, then that was too easy, I took it back to same people who repaired my car after it was crashed and they already had the exact Paint Codes that Nissan used for my car so they just painted the Spoilers the same color.

Look at my pics, it looks totally stock, no color differential at all and I only paid a total of $205 (125 for the Spoiler Decklid or Trunk) and $80 for the Paint Job a Savings of $165 for what you paid to get it done.

Not a bad deal at all, the Stealerships are overrated (unless you get it free).

I should've made myself more clear, the Rear or Trunk Spoiler I got from Ebay was PAINTED w/the Harness, Free Shipping for $125 but the Rear Lip Spoiler from Stillen isn't painted but only costed me $80.00 to do so.

I'm satisfied with my deal

I finally got mine installed yesterday and it looks great. My final cost to me was $384.16. <<That included a 15% discount which they give on all parts and labor service since the car was purchased there. So if I had ordered it online and then had a local body shop install it, it would have ended up costing me more. So I am glad I went with the dealer in this instance. Plus if there are ever any issues, it is covered under warrenty.

Here is a copy of the invoice.

I got mine installed at an autobody shop from when my car was there do to someone backing into me. Repair cost $3,873. Cracked headlight $900 and front bumper $750. Then paint and labour then they put the cost of the spoiler somewhere in there. I love it with the spoiler. Now all i need is the sport package rims

I have SV premium+ tech package.

Nope no pics yet. I am not worried about the plates, because when I drive the car around, everybody sees the plates too, OR they could follow me home. ....And if they are going to steal the car, then they are.

When you get it done at the dealership or order the factory parts they remove/ask you about; the third brake light and cover up the hole with a small panel that is covered with same interior color and cloth already there. A very classy way of doing it if you ask me.

I agree. I never understood why anyone would hesitate to let their plate number appear on the web.

Driving in a downtown urban area after dark is extremely dangerous. Parking a FWD car where a lift truck or wrecker can easily maneuver in front and lift the front end is inviting car theft. Driving through what appears to be shallow water can be a very disastrous decision. Stopping and getting out of your car at night in a desolate area can be foolishly dangerous. Giving another driver the bird can be an invitation to be shot. Cutting off another driver in traffic is just asking for a confrontation. Even using a credit or debit card online can be inviting fiscal grief.

But I am out on the public streets every day of my life, plates in full view of folks that live within easy reach of my property, and have been doing this for over sixty years without even a hint of concern that this will bring me grief. My plate number is WF70F5, has been this same number for almost ten years, and I would have no hesitation posting it on a billboard in ten foot tall letters. I am vastly more concerned with who is around me while refueling a half mile from my home than with who sees my plate numbers on the internet.

I had mine added by the dealer for $300 installed. They did an awesome job. I love the LED lights in the spoiler. It matches the tail lights very well!
