Auto Headlights sensitivity

Can anyone explain to me why we are able to change the sensitivity of the auto headlights when it doesn’t do anything. I mean especially in the daytime when it rains or when it’s really foggy you think they would turn on, but nothing. I know some people may say they are too sensitive, but of course when you go under a bridge they will turn on. Could it be something wrong with the indicator?

I wish i knew that answer... I've tried to get them to come on in the rain or fog as well to no avail. You are right when you say changing the sensitivity doesn't seem to do anything.

I also agree and have the same issue. I tried every sensitive setting to no avale. the second from the lowest seems the best for me, at least for turning on when it needs too. But like everyone else they dont turn on when its foggy or rainy. Nissan should of made the lights turn on automatically with the wipers. Otherwise this will do, cause the max is the

hahaha, I too was wondering if that setting was a placebo setting. I never noticed any change at all.

I wish there was a way for them to just turn them on all the time. (Day or night) I guess I could block the sensor with something...

try cutting a piece of black elect tape. The sensor should be the round disk on the driver side near the winshield.

That way it's removable if you change your mind later, but can cut it to fit and blend in.

I didn't even know there was a sensitivity setting for the auto headlights, is that a package option or is it on all the models?

I two REALLY wish they turned on when the wipers did. Technically I think its a law here that you have to have your lights on when using your wipers. I find myself forgetting.

Actually the sensor is on the passenger side. The one on the left (driver side) is for the HVAC sensor ( Heating and A/C)

I know you can do it with the Tech Package, you have to go under comfort and convience option.

Are you sure? I have the one on the passenger side covered with two pieces of electrical tape and they still are not "always on".

That is correct. According to the Owner's Manual, the autolight sensor is indeed at the RIGHT end of the top of the dash.

I just stumbled on this old thread when searching for something else. Anyways, I do agree that in my 2010 Maxima SV Sport, the Auto Headlight Sensitivity setting does absolutely nothing.

I drive through a small underpass (train tracks are above) everyday going to work. I spend maybe two seconds, if that, being physically under the bridge. Within that 1-2 seconds, my HIDs come on and immediately shut off. Very fast on/off cycles like that shorten the lifespan of HIDs.

Short of taping the light sensor and leaving the HIDs on all the time, is there anything else that will fix this issue?

By the way, I love my Maxima but the tech/nav software is a bit clunky. It's pretty clear that auto makers should not be software engineers. :P

For example, searching for a point of interest with the navigation is near useless - I'm better off getting the point of interest's location from Google first and then inputting the street address into the Nav system.

It would be EPIC if more tech companies teamed up with automakers to produce a more fluid tech user experience, much like Microsoft has done with Ford and its Sync software.

I think in the center console setting you can adjust or even turn it off iirc
