09 Maxima does well in Vehicle Launch Index Ranking
J.D. Power and Associates Reports: Vehicle Launch Index Ranking
09 Max does well in another survey. Hyundai Genesis takes the crown though. I don't know if it means much but I think it shows more evidence on how solid (sales, style, performance) this car has been.

. I have yet to see a Tiguan on the road, not that I am looking forward to that day
Ummmmm . . . Where are all those folks who spent last fall here telling us how great the Pontiac G8 was, and how they preferred it to the '09 Maxima? I guess they bought the G8, and, based on the table presented in maxger's post, are sitting somewhere in a Pontiac service department waiting room, wondering if their G8 will even get them home after yet another repair.
Pretty soon, they will have to find a different service department, since Pontiac is now being dropped. I don't blame them for not posting here any more. If I were them, I would be too embarrased to come here.
The moral here? Don't ever spit on a Maxima.

I was once a Pontiac "Fanboy", and was ready and very close to buying a G8 back in April, until GM and Pontiac went belly up. Decided I was not going to take the chance on the car either being "Pontiac's Last Classic" or "Pontiac's last Car/Dud/Your Stuck with It/No resale Value" Looked around real hard for about a month and decided on the Maxima. Never looked back.
Here is a website I created about my ol' Grand Prix:
http://home.comcast.net/~warren.family/GP.html
....perhaps I will eventually do something similiar for the Max, after I get into her innards a little more.

Sitting in the G8 was one of the top deciding factors for me to get the 09 Max. Horrible car all around. Terrible engine in both the V6 and V8. Cheap cheap cheap interior. The rear seats were more comfortable then the drivers seat! That is even what the salesman was promoting!!!!
Well, I'm glad to hear the great news about our Car. I too have read many Reviews on various forums about ppl comparing their beloved G8 to our Maxima and saying how they got a better car.
It's funny how their better car will have no resale in about 3 years and ours will still hold value, plus most of those who bought the G8 were saying how much faster it is than a Max but when I witnessed a V8 version only running 14.58's consistently at the track-needless to say I was not impressed at all.
So the Max ranks well above their average index and that is outstanding especially when the dying G8 is almost near the bottom of the list.

Nothing against the Maxima, but the VLI includes so many different things it's hard to say what is actually being measured. Some very hard to explain scores here. For example, how does the VW Routan score so high, and the new Audi A4 so low?
Granted, the survey would have been much more informative and meaningful if the score of each vehicle in each area being measured was presented. That way, the user would have the option of placing additional weight on scores in areas of interest to them, and discounting scores in areas of little concern.
But that didn't happen, so we are simply left with a warm feeling that, although we know no specifics, our new '09 Maxima seems to be more than holding its own amongst the flood of new offerings out there.
Mkaresh - I will be glad when enough posters here decide to participate in your rating service that we can get a clear picture of exactly what is going on with this new '09 Maxima.
We're getting there. Might have a partial result in November.
Some models with subpar reliability have decent launch index scores. This is to be expected when a number of different components are included in a score, as good scores in other areas can compensate for a poor score in one area. Things like inventory turns and incentives seem to be given a lot of weight, though car buyers could care less about the former and benefit (at least in the short term) when the latter are high. The key to a good score appears to be pricing a car right and keeping production in line with demand.
The funny thing with the press release: J.D. Power called the launch of the Hyundai Genesis "flawless." Its score was the best, yet 311 points short of what I'd consider "flawless."
