Question Question: Driver seat comfort!

First off, this post is not related to the problem with the rocking driver seat (which I do have).

Does anyone have a problem with the comfort of the leather driver seat with the seat thigh support extension? I find it feels like there is a bar at the end of the leather seat and junction or start of the thigh support extension that puts pressure on the bottom of my thighs. I just got back from a 200mile road trip and my leg has been sore for several hours and during the drip I could not get comfortable for the life of me. It is more apparent on the right side of the seat. If I place my hand at the end of the seat (next to junction with thigh support extension) and push down, I can feel something hard (like the edge of the main seat sticking up). Can someone else let me know if this is a problem and if they feel this hard piece in the seat on the right side of the seat? I will try to take some pictures and post.....

Thanks,

Is this not something you would have looked into before you purchased the car?

It did not seem to be a problem up until about 3 weeks ago. I have had the car for 3 months.

Well, I'm in my car over 3 hours a day and haven't noticed that particular issue (I have the climate controlled seat) I do know that, for me, having the thigh support extended requires less of a seat "tilt" than without it and, for the most part, I leave it "normalled."

Having said all that, I have noticed that it appears as if the gap caused by extending the thigh support makes me feel as though the seat is a bit less padded but I attributed that to my long legs and not spending enough time adjusting everything to suit!

No problems for me, I'm 5'11. Is size or weight an issue?

I'm 6'2", 190lbs and I think the seats are some of the most comfortable i've been in. Took a 4.5 hour trip to the Adirondacks and coulda gone longer (comfort wise, NOT sanity)

I agree with the comfort....beats most of the seats I've ever been in (6'4" 250lbs)

These seats have been very comfortable for both my wife and myself. I never extend the thigh support except for brief periods to give a 'different' feel on long trips, at which time, just like LtLeary, I also tilt the seat very slightly (raise the back portion of seat bottom and drop the front portion of seat bottom).

I feel this thigh support works best when it does not press firmly against the bottom of the thigh, but simply offers a gentle hint of support.

Sorry just a little off track here, but has anyone noticed on these seats that the support plate between the extension and the seat is a metal color (tin) and on sunny days when you open your door it just jumps out at you. (extended or not). Would it not have been correct to color this metal black to blend in with the black leather.

I have had 3 low back surgeries and continue to have major back and leg problems so I am extra sensitive to seat comfort from the avg Joe. The front seats in the Maxima are one of the best contoured/most comfortable seats I have ever had or sat in. Too bad the back seats couldn't match the fronts!

Or the tan leather, or the frost leather, or the black cloth, or the tan cloth, or the frost cloth, or . . . but wait! They DO match the frost very well!

It would have required additional parts coordination and assembly planning on Nissan's part to have steel parts of the seat understructure match the upholstery.

If I were in your situation, I would consider putting black vinyl tape on just the portion of the top of these bars that shows when entering the car. This vinyl tape works well in many situations. Just be sure that sliding the extended rest back into the seat will not scrape the tape off.

I am not sure if I just don't understand this statement or if the 2010 changed. On my car, the area between the extension and the seat is covered in a piece of leather or vinyl (black)

If you are having a problem with the seat, go back to the dealer, that is what the warranty is for.

I noticed that the thigh extension when pushed into the chair all the way can sometimes cause a small bump under the seat. I just leave it extended, I have long legs anyway. Only negative consequence I've noticed is crap falls in between the seat and thigh extension now.

Smile Check your driving position

It took me a while to find a comfortable position (I have back issues as well) but follow along the lines of the image below. And like Light said, you're not supposed to have the thigh supports hit the back of your legs. Tweak it here and there until you find your comfort zone.

Hi guys thanks for the comments, concerning my (is it only me) problem. Lightonthehill my concern is not the color, but the leather between the extension and seat. Is the metal visible for any other member? If it is then I do not have a problem. Atlanta10 I do have leather in between the extension, but it seems like it rolled down like a sock on your calf, just slightly. Afy4u, have seen my dealer told me he would get back to me, that was in December when I parked my Max for the snow season. Soon as the weather cleans up I will be heading back to dealer. I was just wondering if anyone else can see this little detail or is it just my vehicle. thanks guys
