Ok So I've had them on for about a month now. They are the Ichiba v2 15mm Wheel Spacers. I have them on the Rear Wheels. For the past week the car has been driving like if the wheels needed balancing, so 2 nites ago the car was driving horrible. It got really bad, so i pull over and realize that the spacer is off a couple of mm off the hub, so I drive it to the next exit and as i'm getting off the exit i realize that the wheel is bobbling left and right as if its going to fall off. It was very scary to see this. I pull over and decide to lift the car up and remove the wheel, only to find out that 3 of the bolts that hold the spacer to the studs are loose and the other 2 have broken off with the studs. Total nightmare. I didn't want to take a chance and drive home on 3 studs so i called a tow truck and got it towed. So today I decide to take off the other wheel to remove the spacer and come to find out that 2 of the nuts holding on to the studs are comletely loose. None of those studs broke. Maybe I did something wrong when I installed them but I'm pretty sure I didn't. So if i recommended these to you before, i'm sorry, I take that Back. For those that have these installed, I would recommend you keep a close eye and make sure this doesn't happen to you.

 

Wow, that is scary stuff. Glad to hear you didn't get hurt. That could have gone horribly sideways.

 

Maybe I'm just paranoid but spacers have always worried me. I feel this way because by putting spacers on, you give the wheels more leverage to stress the lug nuts. I'm no engineer but I'm sure there is a way to quantify this.

 

Sorry to hear it Bro, and glad to hear you are safe and your car didn't get damaged. There's always a bright side of things because this could've been much worse/disastrous.

I know you liked that shouldered out look the rear wheels had and I think it is a perfect looking set up for our rear wheels to stick out just smudge more than the fronts but it isn't worth it if this has to happen just to get the appeal.

I'm still going to get spacers, but not the v2 or the style that just bolts up to ur original studs, gonna go the more secure way and get the studs replace with some that are just a tad bit longer and then put on a spacer. Just be very careful with the style of spacer that bolts on to the original studs. These are the type i'm talking about

Spacer can be tricky...you should retighten them after 500 miles or so. I do alot of 4 wheeling and have made custom spacers for my truck, alum rings are sofe and the lug nuts can compress them.

 

i just put some on my car, did you torque the spacers down to a particular spec when you installed them?

Hey i had them on since june-july 10mm frnt v1 and 15mm v2 rear .. no problems thus far.... imo they have been awesome!!!!

Thats crazy but I've had the same happen with H&Rs. I've went to the bolt on spacers with no problems after a year of use now. Ill never run extended studs again. They cost me two hubs and rotors.

 

I dont even know what to do anymore. I'm pretty sure I had the bolt on spacers torqued correctly. I've done some research and find that this has happened to some other people as well, I wanted to do the extended studs to fit 15mm spacers and now you are telling me it cost you 2 hubs and rotors. WTF i guess neither one is safe huh.

 

you need to change your studs when dealing with spacers, length depends on how wide the spacer is.

Hey, but seriously, I am happy it did not happen with you on the freeway doing 70 and the wheel flies off.

Tire has flown off my Mom's car, with me at the wheel! Doing 35, and I was 18 at time. No spacers on car. Just nuts were loose in her Nissan Sunny. So, it can be scary for a wheel to wabble or get loose.

i know a handful of people running the v2 spacers... even up front which is a lil scary to me....they have all torqued the them down to about 90lbs and had no problem. one guy has had them on his car for almost a year now...

 

1. proper torque is critical when running spacers.
2. For all that money you spent on spacers, why not just buy wheels with proper offset so it's a non-issue?

 

Like I said, im pretty sure they were torqued down pretty good, either way, yesterday i installed longer studs and 15mm spacer on the back and I feel much safer. I dont want to buy other wheels as the ones I have are good enough and i spent a good amount of money to get them painted. Plus I like them alot. Like i said i'm just saying to make sure you keep an eye out if you install v2 spacers from ichiba. I would check every here and then and make sure the spacer is snug against the hub and I would go as far as taking the wheels off every month or so and retorquing the nuts on the spacer just incase. If you feel your car running a little rough on the road or seems like it needs an alignment then don't hesitate and take the wheels off and check the spacer. That was my fault for not checking to make sure the work done on the spacers were properly torqued down. Its a shame cuz those spacers look sexy and seemed like a great idea.

were the OEM studs sticking out of the spacer?? like when you bolted the wheel up the oem studs were touching the wheel causing the two not to mate up to each other

i experienced a stud snapping problem like that on my old '96 with aftermarket wheels, not fun.

I just read this... First of all, you can not use impact on these spacers.. The main part is aluminum.. too much torque will create too much stress on the bolts.

 

Step 1) Install spacers between ears.

Step 2) torque to specifications.

Step 3) test drive.

 

yeah never let a shop use an impact gun. my front spacers are warped now cause a stupid *** shop that did my 4 wheel alignment used an air gun and torqued to "Nissan spec" 85 ft lbs without asking me. it'd be hard for me to prove they warped them at that moment, i know they'd claim they were warped before, so i took it as a L. big lesson here make a point to install your spacers right and never let a shop use an airgun!
