2010 Maxima - DVD while in motion
I asked a question, if I want to know your thoughts of something that has nothing to do with what I asked I will let you know.

KP Technologies had one for the 2009 but I do not see anything of this nature for the 2010 models. As far as the warranty goes, this type of modification could void your warranty if it is proven to be the cause of whatever failure is being reported.
The main thing the KP kit does is temporarily disconnect the VSS wire. I don't see why it wouldn't work for 2010's as well. After you install that kit, you need to do one other mod to get it to work while driving... you should be able to figure out what that is. Hint- it involves grounding a wire.
I installed the KP kit and it works way better than I ever would have imagined. The only times I use it while driving: so my passenger can browse POI's and have full functionality of the Nav. Even though I am able to watch videos I havn't. Its not worth the risk. But it sure is nice to watch while parked and not have to worry about putting on the parking brake and whatnot.

Correct. Does the 2010 allow simultaneous Nav/DVD playback? On the 09 its one of the other, so if you need the nav you just turn the VSS back on and the map takes a second or two to update your position. It works great on the 09 - if the '10 indeed allows both to operate at the same time then you are correct, and there is no feasible way to allow DVD playback.
I want to clearify what I meant by simultaneous - on the 09 you can have both running, but only one on the screen at a time. If on the '10 you can have a 'nav overlay' on the DVD screen then you will have problems. Otherwise, if you want to switch back to your nav screen, just push the button, turn the VSS back on and bingo, one or two seconds later your map is updated and working like nothing ever happened.
Email KP and ask him, but to the best of my knowledge yes, it should work.

This is something I am interested in as well. I don't have the Nav but I do have the Monitor package (2010) I checked KP Technologies but it seems to be designed for the Nav system. I would prefer to be able to do this myself rather than go to an audio shop, but if it is too complicated, I may be forced to. Thanks for the advice.
To play while moving though, that would require the KP Module or a relay and switch of your own.
While it's off or while you are moving? If you just want to while its off, just go behind the radio, snip the p-brake input and ground the section of wire coming out of the radio harness. tape up the car end of the wire and you are good to go. You'll never have to depress the parking brake again.

Since you did a DIY guide, would you be able to give an estimate on the difficulty of this for someone who is more than capable with car audio/video but not quite an expert?
It is easy to moderate I'd say, depending on your ability. The hardest part was soldering within the confines of the dash. For me it was a snap, especially because of the writeup that djfrestyl did. Just follow the writeup and it really is a piece of cake. If you havnt looked at it yet, do so. It is a very very impressive piece of work. (yes, that was yet another pat on the back to djfrestyl)

Edit: I found it. Just wasn't using the right keywords.

Thanks for the kudos guys, I'm just glad I can help out. It was actually 'netjack' who approached me and asked if I could do it - so much of the kudos also goes to him for trusting me, and providing the guinea pig car
I got a question for the non-Nav model. I was playing around with the A/V input and my Ipod and found that the parking brake has to be grounded in order to view the movie on screen. However, it can be in Drive and the video still shows. It seems like all I would have to do is ground the parking brake, but for some reason I feel it would be a little more difficult than that. Does anyone know if there is some speed sensor in the monitor package? And, can someone give me a clue as to where the correct wire is (which wire more specifically) the wire I would ground to get video playback.
This is NOT for me, this would be for my passenger(s) on long road trips. I realize this is illegal for a video screen to be in view of the driver, but my fiance gets BORED to death on our longer trips.

I did this for a 2010, do not buy KP's $100 waste of money unnecessary piece. I brought it to my local car shop, behind the radio is a 32 pin connector. Green and red wire is the e brake, violet and white is the VSS. We put regular on and off switches for both(probably could have just grounded e brake), and it works fine.

the KP unit is nice because there is no need for additional switches... It wires right into the center enter button on the dash. Otherwise it does the same thing as a regular relay would do. You have to pick, DVD or Nav. Expensive, yes, but works awesome and is very complete.
Hi, does anyone have a wiring schematic for the 2010 Maxima with Bose with Navigation system? I've seen the one for the 2009 Maxima and it appears to be different. Based on the earlier thread post regarding the 32 pin connector and the green/red wire being for the e-brake and the white/violet wire being for the VSS, I'm just wanting to confirm those pin numbers on the 32 pin connector.
I have heard of the colors being different on the same year of car so I am trying to be as careful as I can before cutting into the wires.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi everyone, I've been able to answer my own question but I thought I'd post a followup for the benefit of others.
Nissan has changed the wiring on the 2010 Maxima Navigation unit over the 2009 Maxima Navigation unit.
For the 2010 model, the ebrake is pin #37, the VSS is pin #54. The colors that are mentioned in the earlier posts for these are correct.
I spliced on to Accessory power with pin #7 and also spliced into ground with pin #20.
Unfortunately I can't figure out how to upload the wiring schematic so that you know what connectors go with these, but if you want a copy, just send me a private message through the forums, or post directions on how to upload and I'll do that.
Thanks!
Jay

Bypass for DVD
Yes,
I got the bypass back in February and it works just fine. There's a toggle switch that has to be installed underneath your dash. Leave it off when you don't need your DVD. Flip it on when you do need it. However when you have it activated it does disengage your Navigation while the toggle switch is on.
Once your movie is done toggle off and it'll take 2 minutes for the Navi to reset. It is so cool!!

You used a 2-pole toggle switch instead of the KP Technologies bypass module, correct?

2010 Max w/Nav, Premium, and Tech pkdg. Video
Hi I'm a new Max owner but had a Altima before. I am having my car AV guy put in the switch this week. Apparently everything will work just like it should but I will be able to watch DVDs while moving. I will report back with results once its done.
ok so I have the switch on the ebrake. it bypasses the brake part but as soon as you start rolling the video cuts out. The brake also beeps constantly. I have 2 main questions for you guys. 1 does the KP kit bypass the beeping and allow for you to watch while driving? Does it allow for navigation while using the DVD you just have to switch back and forth with the input buttons?
