Speed vs. Fuel Economy
for what it's worth,
Drag force increases exponentially with speed. Drag Force = 1/2*rho*Cd*A*V^2 where rho is the fluid density, Cd is the coefficient of drag, A is the frontal area and V is the velocity. You can see that velocity dominates the Drag Force equation with it's square.

A 10 month delay...
Sorry for the 10 month delay, I was able to stretch the legs on the Max today on the Autobahn. I threw this together on the Mac earlier. This was taken on the A-63 between Frankfurt and Kaiserslautern. I got smoked by a late model SLK because of the speed limiter. Sorry for the poor video quality.

When I visit Germany soon, I would get on the autobahn with a rental Ferrari, Porche, Audi or VW! I want to go too fast and too furious.
Welcome to the org.

It's absolutely true that accelerating uses more fuel than a constant speed cruise at either the low speed where you start accelerating, the high speed at which you stop accelerating, or at any point in between. Constantly doing so means that up to half the time you're running with 'acceleration enrichment', which is exactly what it sounds like (more fuel).

I like the vidoe. Man, you took that video by yourself? And I am surprised it did not go past 130mph, though that is the highest I have done in my 6thgen. Besides, did you move to Germany from the states? or were you born and only lived in Germany? Did you buy your 7thgen there? Just curious.

I was taking my family down to the Alps last weekend and on our way through Stuttgart I was passed on the left by a primer black Ferrari 599(590??). Never the less, I was cruising at about 110 and this guy must have been doing 165 170. Makes me want to win the lotto.
I guess I am getting old but I don't think I would cruise at 110 with my family on board. But then if that is the normal speed there then going slower would probably be unsafe. I guess that is one of the "damned if you do and damned if you don't" situations.
I was in Germany about a year ago, and I was in a 2010 VW wagon diesel. We were flying at about 125mph in the middle lane. We were heading south to Mittenwald for a bicycle race through the alps. I was a white knuckled passenger.....the Mazeratti's really do 185 Joe Walsh!

I love this because I like to drive fast and keep it moving, I think this car's fuel economy is more affected by constantly having to slow down and then speed back up.
