Question Extended Warranty

I am thinking of purchasing the Nissan extended warranty so I do not have to worry crap after 36k miles...

Anyone bought one? How much did you pay and which plan?

I have been offered this by the dealership sales MGR; I was told this is her cost, but nt sure if I can believe it.

Please share your comments, thanks

MGR Offer:

2- " " " " " $0.00 " $1428.00

3- 72 " " " " " $50.00 " $1435.00
4- 72 " " " " " $0.00 " $1647.00

Nice price but remember the sales people make commission on it so it can come cheaper, go to service (they don't make commission) and tell them what you want and see what the price is or just randomly call/email a bunch of Nissan/Infiniti dealers and see what they quote you on the price

I have the Gold Preferred 84/70,000 0 Deductible. You REALLY should have talked them into "throwing" it in while you were haggling the price you intended to pay.

Tho I got it for "free", I suspect I ended up footing most of the cost in some other confusing "fee" that was on that huge form.

Canadian Nissan Extended Warranty

I purchased an extended warranty for my 2009 SV Premium. The mark up on such things is very close to 100%. You should not pay more than $1000 (including a nice profit for the dealership) for an additional 2 years of warranty on a Maxima.

Honestly it just depends, though I do find that regular warranties are tad skimpy. If your the type that just drives your Max on the weekends, you could get away with the lower end warranty. For me though, I picked up the 72/100k. I will easily put 15-20k on my car a year without trying, so it was a necessity and I only spent $750. I am was a return purchaser and they weren't having a great quarter, so the loss of a few hundred there was worth my overall satisfaction with the price. Yeah, I could of talked them down further but sometimes its better to take the good deal then to push your luck for the great deal and come out with nothing.

Wow that's a real good price!!!

Your in MD; hey can you talk to the sales rep/dealership and see if I can get me the same deal? Which dealership was this?
And we are talking Factory Nissan, like the one we get with the car, right?

That's with 0 deductible right?

As an owner of our 6th and 7th Nissans, I would never buy an extended warranty. They are way over priced, and quite frankly unnecessary. CR and others always recommend against them, and for good reason. This is one of those areas where almost everyone is better off "self-insuring". They may offer peace of mind, but it is very expensive peace of mind.

I would never judge someone who did buy one, just not a good value for me.

You should also find out who the warranty is thru. Sometimes you can call them and compare prices. Also, you can check with your insurance company to see if they offer some. I know AAA offers it and you can compare services as well as price. I didn't get one on my 02 but i go to a shop that works on nissan's only that i trust and they are cheaper than the dealer.

There are always options but do what you like and are happy with.

A $1000 is not that expensive where if one big thing goes wrong you would be fully covered, sorry - I disagree.

Although I hear you on the reliability fact, but nothing is guaranteed, never guaranteed!

I guess what most people don't do is set money aside for problems, that compounded over years and years is suppose to net you more, then buying a extended warranty, I would eventually like to do it that way.

As of right now my car is covered for 5 years 75k, full maintenance and bumper to bumper coverage, and tire protection, had them throw it in or no deal but like Compusmurf Im sure Im paying for it

Doubt I could get you a deal. But I went to Sheehy Nissan in Glen Burnie, but you can find one of there other ones. I think he has 5-6 throughout the Bmore-Wash area. I got a good deal cause I was return customer and has some extenuating circumstances. But I am sure you can talk any dealership down. Salesperson doesnt' control those "aftersales" items, the finance guy will go threw it all with you. Well, good luck.

I typically don't go for extended warranties, but I decided to on this car. I got the 5 yr/100k just because I drive a lot and didn't want to be out of warranty after 1.5 years. The finance guy was gone when I actually closed the deal so the sales guy showed me the book and the "invoice" on it was 932, and I paid 1k.

I figure with so many electronics and small gadgety things that I might not be able to fix on my own, it might be worth it...

Just my 2 cents

That's exactly what I was thinking; great minds think alike.
You think if I call them; they would do it for me?
