Has anyone figured out a way to have the OEM fogs turn on either independently using the OEM stalk or how to get them to turn on with the parking lights but be able to still shut off or turn on from the stalk (Fog Lights)??

Just wondering if anyone is willing to try it how it was done on the 5th Gens?? Here is the LINK to the DIY

 

I am planning on looking through the relay pannel this weekend to see what I need to do to get the fogs on w/o the headlights.

I am going to test differnt wires before I go tapping into them. I want to make sure that the fogs don't come on every time the parking light is on and that the switch for the fogs is still going to be totally functional, still being able to turn the fogs off.

That might be what happens with what they show in the link you provided but they don't clearly state that. If you are familiar with electricity, series / parallel circuits and relays plus haveing a good electrical meter this won't be to hard to figure out.

That seems like it's too easy. Will the stalk controller for the fog's still control the fogs?

I've seen a bunch of different ways on this site to get the fogs to work without the headlights, even one with a $50 module that looks like a real pain in the azz to install. If this works this well, I'm all over it!

 

I looked around to see what was going on with the light/ switch setup and I don't think i'll be able to acomplish what I wanted to do without replacing the light switch handle on the steering wheel. All the lights have a relay underneath the fuse box under the hood. What turns the relays on is the low amp control voltage they have going to the switch handle. Without tearing the handle apart I would imagine they have 1 control power wire feeding the switch and each turn of the handle feeds that control voltage to the relay for each set of lights. The main turn **** on the handle for the auto, parking and headlights sends the control voltage to headlight and parking light relays and is what connects the control voltage to the switch for the fogs. So wihout the headlight switch on, the fog switch has not voltage to send to the relay for the fogs. The only way to be able to get the fogs to work with the switch also working perfect would involve taking the whole handle apart and residing it.

It's a little hard to explain without drawing it out but does this make sense to everyone?

If you don't mind the fog switch not being functional you can still hook them up to the parking lights but I strongly recommend putting in a relay for the fogs and having the parking lights voltage just switching the relay.

 

Exactly like I said I have no clue about wiring, lol... It kinda makes sense basically what I get from it is that it is possible to do but will take lots and lots of work in order to get the job done.

 

i actually have my fogs turn on with the DTL i didn't do it myself but i'll post pics of how it looks, still functional switch no probs thus far
