Auto start alarm system question
Auto start alarm system question
Has anyone installed an aftermarket auto start alarm system? I was wondering if it would work with the push button ignition system, I know that with normal ignitions you can start the car with the alarm but once in the car you have to put the key in and turn it to "run" in order to actually drive off, How does it work with the push button system?

i got a viper installed.. and yes it works with the push button but makes it a bit more costly and time consuming ..
the remote start is a little funny , i was told (after, but that was my own fault for not resarcing here more before getting it done) that mine wasnt done right , due to the fact , that like you said , you have to shut off and restart.. but ,, about half the time i get in i just hit the brakes and press the start button twice and then i can just drive off .. the other half this doesnt work and just causeses the car to turn off

Does the car actually shut off causing you to have to restart it? Or, do you just have to go through the motions of pushing the start button quickly within 30 seconds or so? Also, what is the remote start range of the viper remote? I park far away and was hoping that it was at least 200-300 feet or more. I also need something that shows me on the remote that everything worked and that the car turned on (since I can't always see the lights come on). Thanks

The viper 5901 has a 1 mile range, in good conditions and it will tell up when your vehicle has started, and shut off.
I just got a Viper 5901 installed. Didn't want the alarm but he thought he could completely disable the alarm side. No go. Replacement 5501 (same remote stater sans the alarm portion) is on the way. But, with mine I get in and press the break. He says the latest units do that as opposed to the double-press of the start button. Both seem to work.
Question: Do you find the Cablin Temperature to be completely off? Mine seems to read about 20f high. He says because the temp probe is in the unit and all that is tucked under the dash so it isn't good for an accurate reading. Hmm.
This is Not a Best Buy install. That place scares me :-)

Three taps on the start button and off you go. I have it installed using the factory remote and it works great. The question you to need to ask yourself when choosing one is the options you want and need.
1.Range
2.Look aftermarket key chain or factory.
3.Price
I just wanted it to start the car as I have no need to worry about knowing if its tampered with or if its moving or if I can control it via iphone. To me the engine just needs to start prior to me arriving and if someone decides to steal it or break in then that when insurance comes in handy.

Viper 5501 in 2010 Maxima
Does anyone have this combination installed?
If so, is your Viper fob oblivious to the state of the doorlocks? For instance, if you opened the lock with the Viper fob and it is showing unlocked, then you exit the car and lock it with the nissan fob. The Viper fob is still showing unlocked. My installer says that's the way it is. But then when I left today's appointment the Active/passive locking was supposed to be working too :-)
When he originally had the 5901 in there (thinking he could completely disable the alarm portions as that was the model he stocked) the state of the doorlocks always matched the Viper fob's display.
Thanks.
