So answer me this:I see all these intakes and exhaust parts for the 7TH GEN maximas, how are they claiming the 13hp?Seems to me most of what I see they either claim 9hp or 13hp.most of the intakes are closely rated (takeda, stillen, injen, racingline,k&n,).Actually the K&N looks likes it made very well.I would just swap the filter to the racingline filter and add the fresh air port from the front snorkel. What do you think about that?lol

And do you think somebody will make a true cold air intake soon? All I see is the short ram style.Space is tight for it but maybe its possible?

Here is my impression on the Y-pipe:

I was very easy to install and lined up very well.It also came with the 2 nuts and bolts needed for the rear section.I bought the 3 new gaskets but I re-used the 2 front stock gaskets as they already had a compressed impression on them and they looked ok.So they were easy to line up and hold in place. If I used the new gaskets in front it would have been a paint even with RTV to hold them exactly in place. The rear gasket I used a new one.

I do not see any difference in sound and not sure if I feel any difference in the power just yet.But ,I do believe it will really shine when it is coupled to a nice full exhaust soon.Exhaust flow is definetely better by design...

^That is a good thought to me^. And I dont think it would be loud at all, just a lil throatier as the stock mufflers are still in place.

I was thinking the exact same thing about deleting the resonator and keeping the stock mufflers. Has anyone done this? If so, did you get any drone in the interior?

ive done it in previous cars, it does sound better but the droning is not worth it, i would recommend replacing it with a smaller one, just my .02

Ha! Honestly man, the best way to tell if mods gave you anything performance wise is to hit the 1/4 mile before and after. I've always tried to pick days that have the same kind of conditions before and after mods so that you can't blame a worse time on ambient temps and humidity. Disconnect the battery for 10-15 mins and reset all the fuel trims. Hopefully the ECM will account for the new exhaust flow in a few days and it'll work out the new A/F ratios.

If it's no better... may want to hit up Hill's Garage in B-more for a real tune.

Question, what is the inner diameter of the Stock piping and the aftermarket Y-pipe?

My buddy from my college has a y-pipe installed on his 2010 Maxima. He told me it improved performance but didn't get the sound he wanted. He told me if I want a G37 sound, I will have to get different headers and a custom exhaust step.

i got the Y pipe and didnt notice any sound change at all. hard to notice any performance gains either to be honest. looking at it and comparing to the stock it does look more open but again my butt dyno says it didnt do much.

to get a sound like a G i think you'd need custom headers. we've got tons of people here with all kinds of custom exhausts and none of em are even close to a G.

I wonder if a G37 exhaust system w/ headers would fit on a Maxima. The G37 sound is my main goal this year before the world ends

Here's a link to 06' Maxima that I think has a similar sound to a G37. This is the sound I want for my Max.

Bump. Is there a difference in pipe sizes? It seems like the stock exhaust pipe size may be sufficient for getting the exhaust out of the engine. Anyone agree or disagree?

My thought is to install the RCL y-pipe and get some high flow cats, high flow mufflers with larger diameter tips. Ofcourse this would requre some welding on the stock exhaust.

Some mixed opinions on this thread if there is a positive difference or not. The majority would say yes. Only thing is RCL says this product is on backorder. Oh well, more time to wait and save up.

yea if we wanted a sound like a G we'd have to do a true dual exhaust setup from the headers back. whoever does that first will be the MAN.

Jodius - let me know what HFC's you're looking at cause I need some too. I didn't notice a huge difference after putting on the Y-pipe but I have a feeling the HFC's will open the whole exhaust up for us.

I mean if you look at the RL Y-pipe compared to stock it is lighter and has less twists so logically should be more free flowing. Personally thought I didn't notice butt-dyno gains like I immediately did with the CAI or intake spacers.

Annimo,

What is the racingline grounding kit? Sorry for the *** question.

Has anyone talked to an exhaust shop about this? I am about to go to one today, see if there are some more options out there. I want my Max to sound like that 6th gen clip, that was sexy! Oh, btw, racingline is expecting more y-pipes in hopefully Monday as I am waiting for my as well.

Odd, I just posted to that thread this morning.

The title is.. opinions on Grounding Kit

Grounding kit refers to a number of thick gauged wires installed in the engine bay at certain points in order to achieve a greater level of electrical grounding as compared to stock. Better grounds allow for better transfer of electrical signals in your car. That's pretty much the jist.

Check out that thread for more detailed discussion.

Have anyone heard of Borla making headers for our 7th gens? I spoke to a performance shop out here in El Paso and he said that they make headers for our cars. Of course when he went in the back, I pulled it up and nothing! I think he's blowing smoke up my a$$ but he is suppose to call me back with a price.

It comes with (2) gaskets. You will need to reuse the stock metal resonator gasket.
Remember to apply anti-seize to the exhaust manifold bolts/studs before installing the Y-pipe.

Story: I bought the Racingline Y-Pipe 4-5 Months Ago. Had it Installed because I didn't have any lifts and didn't have the time.

Positives: Quicker in Performance, Just Have to recognize at what speed(s)
Negatives: Doesn't add almost ANY sound or growl to the car

Would I Recommend It?: Yes, Only Because it Does Add HP and Torque. And It's a Nice Mod to Have in the Long Run.

Final Thoughts: Although the Racingline Y-Pipe costs a couple of hundred bucks, it does add some nice performance ratings to the Maximas. I Didn't like that the sound was bland, so I deleted a resonator or two. The noise is recognizable for sure as you will see in my video. Honestly, its not a "rice rocket" sound, it has a nice "Hum" to it. Sometimes, I think it'll put me asleep when I travel the states for work.
