Power Surge

I noticed today when I started up the Max a power surge while it was idling. When I started it up this morning, it was idling high since it was warming up. While it was idling high, there was a power surge and it sounded as if the car was going to stall, but only for a fraction of a second before returning to idling as it was prior to the power surge. Anyone have this happen to them with their Max? Any ideas what it could be from? Thanks!

Did you have your air conditioning running? if it is running while the car is idling, you can easily notice the compressor & fan kick on and off. Other than that, I can't think of anything.

What do you mean by power surge? Do you mean an electrical surge, or the idle RPM's when up on their own?

are you talking about a large power drain that would cause the engine to slow down momentarily before the computer could increase the throttle to counter ? Like when your AC compressor kicks on?

My Max seems like it's on the verge of stalling everytime the AC compressor kicks on during idling. It idles at about 550 rpm. I can bump it up 50-100 rpm and it smooths right out!

Yes. That's it. I guess it really isn't a surge, as this would indicate an increase in the RPMs. However, I am about 95% sure that the air conditioner wasn't on though???

Unless we turn the HVAC system completely off, the AC is always on, although the fan speed drops way off once the cabin temp reaches the temp we set it for. The 'power surge' would be tied to when the compressor kicks on, and that could be at any time.

Just for further clarification was your car on maybe a 1/2 hour to an hour before?

No. It sat all night. It was the first start up of the day (in the AM).

I will pay more attention to this and will be sure to note if the HVAC system is completely off should this happen again. Thanks!

How long did you let it idle for?

Usually until the RPMs fall below 1000.
