That is one ugly set of camshafts. Nobody in his right mind would push the oil change envelope to cause this to happen. The drain from this engine must have alerted the tech.

I don't sense there was a warranty claim involved. Just: "Hey look at this mess."

Dang, that is either a dumb car owner to let it go that far. Or they got majorly shafted at their oil change/service center.

This is why I take my car to the dealership. Let them deal with the problems and use whatever oil they want too. Free oil changes is also a great reason to do so. I would love to hear what the outcome was with that vehicle.

There's no way this happened after only 26K without skipping oil changes at 3k, most synthetics allow for 5k before changing and don't look half as bad as this.

IMO this guy never changed his oil since the time he got his car, who can be this stupid?

I will never understand why people don't change their oil, no one is gonna believe that this just happened with routine 3000 mile oil changes, a simple oil analysis will determine the oil to be factory fill

did a top end re build on a '99 discovery..owner had gone 41,xxx miles w/o an oil change and it STILL didnt look this bad.

i'd never let either of my max's go more than 4k on a change (mobil1/and filters only)

i use to get lazy and let my car go for 8-10k without an oil change, when i pulled the timing cover off it was still so clean i could lick the camshafts. this is just str9 up negligence, probably the owner start it up everyday and before letting the car get up to temp just had his foot buried in the floor, combine that with driving on dusty roads and.....

It was confirmed in that thread. 27K, no oil change and records were falsified. Idiots.

Is there a Darwin CAR award???

Ahh, nice, I see someone sees my humor .. Both actually. Lazy and the other too. IIRC I'm about 10k now.
