2010 NAV and iPod Software recall
To all - got a notice from NISSAN yesterday that they are recalling 2010's with NAV and the tech package to update / upgrade the software including maps, iPod interfaces, and expanded bluetooth and phone directory capabilities. Contacted my dealer to make an appointment to have the update applied only to find out that the dealership did not have the DVD yet to do the install - they stated that they will have it next week.
Will keep you posted.
Will keep you posted.
Do we have to wait to be notified or can we just call in to the dealer? Also, and I know this is a newbie question, can I take it to the closest dealership or do I have to go back where I leased it?
I'm planning on having them do the nav upgrade and look into the front left driver creaking sound (strut isolators) as noted on the other thread.
Does the nav update only fix ipod compatibility or does it have other improvements?
Great Timing
Thanks for the information - my notification letter hasn't arrived yet.
I already had an appointment for the first oil change tomorrow (originally scheduled the day I bought the car.)
Just talked with the service department to see if they can schedule this update at the same time. They are checking on this recall now.

I had my 2010 SV with Premium/Tech in for service and they did the Nav recall on it while it was there.
No idea on iPhone/iPod updates as I have a Droid Incredible and have not had an issue. I can even hold my phone to my ear and talk with it hanging up or shorting out the antenna too
.
Now I have to wait until next week to get my drivers seat fixed. It rocks and the seat does not move forward either. Guess I get the $1500 seat fix that was posted earlier. The care only has 2200 miles on it too, about 6 weeks old.
It's my 3rd Maxima having owned 2 Altima's before. Traded in my M35 for the Maxima too.

Doesn't have to be the dealer you bought it from. Any nissan service center will take care of you. You don't have to get the letter all you have to do is own a 2010 Maxima with TECH AND NAVI.
call ahead
The mail arrived after I got home - it included the recall notification. I'll not bother to take more time off to get this done until I need to be at the dealer again for the next oil change. It might be a higher priority if there were more details about just what the changes were. As it is, the current software seems just fine (but I use a Blackberry which connects without issues).
Dam i just got my car 2 days ago and have to bring it to the dealer sooner then expected. I just hope they take care of my new baby, I try to avoid dealers as much as possible....Guess i will have to wait for the letter
Are you serious?? I am so happy I have had so many issues with the bluetooth in my care. I've been through like 4 phones already trying to find a new one that works. (Only because I couldn't understand why my old TMobile G1 would work flawlessly but not the new phones)
OK, so I got my letter on Saturday, and made an appointment for this morning. Arrived at 8:40, got the car back about 9:15. Old version of software: X1U32009. New version: X1U52008 (or something similar - don't have the # handy right now)
Nothing got deleted (settings, phones, etc.), and I haven't noticed a difference yet. Next time I go to PA I will probably notice it, as the system crashes repeatedly during my drive to and from Pittsburgh (from the DC area).
I asked the service advisor, and he said they'd done about 30 in-stock cars and 2-3 customer cars.
Super quick and painless.

I had the same experience this AM - arrive at 7:30am and departed at 8:15am - nothing appears different and no changes to settings, stations, bluetooth connections, etc. I asked what changed in the update and the dealer was not sure - said that they would research on Monday and let me know.
I have not gotten a recall notice yet, its for all 2010 Premium w/ Nav right? Should I just call the dealer and take the car down for the recall? I would like to do it soon, as I will be bringing it in for the first oil change as well.
What do you mean by it crashes? I see mine will reboot while im driving.the display just goes black and then the nissan logo comes up like it needed to be rebooted.it does it randomly.pissed me off one time as i was on a phone call and the call was dropped from the car.

To anybody who's gotten this recall letter, did it offer any indication if this applied to ALL 2010 Maximas (with Tech+Nav), or just those produced prior to a specific date? And as the person just above asked, is there some way to check on the NAV to see which version software is loaded? I only purchased my car at the end of June -- either it was manufactured after the problem was corrected, or I'm just getting "into the system" and haven't gotten the letter yet as a result. Thanks!
I also got mine late June and when I checked the version number it was the updated version. There are probably lots of other factors as to being update or not but I had the same number as was mentioned previously as being the update.
I have not seen a letter myself but when I called the dealer all they asked for was my VIN. They told me I was one of the people that the recall applied to so the made my appiointment. I had it updated yesterday. The only thing I have noticed is that it seems faster. Hae had the iPod mess up yet but I'm still waiting... I asked what the update covered and they showed me aetter from Nissan talking about issues they hav heard of and this update was an attempt to try and fix those problems with nav, bluetooth and iPod. Took about 45 min to complete.
Well, I'm actually hoping the update applies to my car. The Nav has been more than a little frustrating to me and my girlfriend -- many times, little things don't come up the same way as they did just seconds before, or we can't get out of "split screen" (after it goes INTO split for no reason) and when we go to the options, split is OFF. I also think it's very slow to switch to an alternate route -- tries to make you turn around forever. Considering the cost of the NAV option, it is disappointing when it doesn't work as easily or as well (in terms of calculating a new route) as my two year old TomTom that's in my G35. I thought at first it was just because the car was new and I wasn't doing everything right with the nav. Now I'm thinking, it's just not as convenient. Any other TomTom users out there with the Nav option on their new Maxima, and what's your impression?

Just got my update installed this morning and so far the overall system feels more responsive and quicker however I never had a problem with my iPod system nor my Motorola Droid anyway. As a side note, the dealer is also going to be replacing my "strut tubes" in order to fix the occasional "creaking sound" from the front.
You clearly have the older version of the software and the recall should apply to your car - the map(s) for the nav are on the hard drive - the install is from DVD inserted into the DVD drive - the dealer will do the install - takes about 45 minutes and all original and modified settings are preserved in the update.
Just checked, and found my 2010 (purchased late June '10) has the new version (X1U52008). Too bad -- I've experienced some kinks and was hoping the update would help. Saved me a trip to the dealer for nothing, however, so worth checking first.
