Question Rusty tail pipe tips

I have notice other peoples muffler tips being rusty. Wud u guys blame it on the gas being used to cause them to be come rusty so quickly. i cud just picture what the exhaust values look like if the gas is to blame. I only use 93 and have 60k on my ride and my tips are still in the factory condition. or cud it just be luck or cud it just be a factory defect.

Well i guess it pays off after all feeding the car its recommended gas thru out time. I can agree the less octane gas maybe the cause of the rust.

I don't think octane has a thing to do with this rust. I am using 89 octane, and my tailpipes are pristeen.

It has been my experience that short trips are a tailpipe's worst enemy. When we drive our car, there will be water in ALL tailpipes NO MATTER the octane. But short trips often do not get the pipes hot enough to evaporate the water, especially for cars in colder climates, where salt on the roads only adds to the misery.

But octane as a rust preventer? I have been driving for 61 years, and never heard anything like that. Nor have I read any documentation that supports any such relationship.

My money is on short trips and/or cold climates and/or salty roads.
