Rusty tail pipe tips
I have notice other peoples muffler tips being rusty. Wud u guys blame it on the gas being used to cause them to be come rusty so quickly. i cud just picture what the exhaust values look like if the gas is to blame. I only use 93 and have 60k on my ride and my tips are still in the factory condition. or cud it just be luck or cud it just be a factory defect.
idk, it could be da gas...ma i30 has 92k on it n i use regular gas....about 2-3months ago i got a brand new dynomax superturbo muffler which i believe is aluminized steel or sumthin...am already starting to see some rust on da tips...i was planning on doing a clear coat on it when it was brand new..but then i was like eff it, we'll see when it comes to it.
It has been my experience that short trips are a tailpipe's worst enemy. When we drive our car, there will be water in ALL tailpipes NO MATTER the octane. But short trips often do not get the pipes hot enough to evaporate the water, especially for cars in colder climates, where salt on the roads only adds to the misery.
But octane as a rust preventer? I have been driving for 61 years, and never heard anything like that. Nor have I read any documentation that supports any such relationship.
My money is on short trips and/or cold climates and/or salty roads.
