Do you really need a new weatherstripping + trunk shocks when adding an OEM spoiler?
I purchased an OEM spoiler and the kit came with new gas trunk shock absorbers (that hold the trunk up/open) as well as a new weatherstrip for the trunk. Is it really necessary to swap these out? What is the point? My car already has trunk shocks and weather strip. Whats different?
Thanks in advance

Not having added a spoiler to my Maxima, I'm not sure how important this is with this car. But when I added a spoiler to my '78 Datsun 200SX, until I replaced the OEM lift springs with ones designed to hold the extra weight, the trunk lid was difficult to lift, would not stay open, and compressd the weatherstripping further down than it should have.
yes, it is needed, well if you want the trunk to stay open when you try to leave it open in the "up" position. The extra weight is just at the right spot that the stock arms can't support it.
maybe you can get away without doing it. Install the wing first and see what it's like, then if necessary, install the others. I suspect the weather stripping will need to be done regardless, else the stock weatherstripping will quickly breakdown which could cause water leakage and/or trunk rattling
