How to get rid of the "new car scent" previous owner sprayed into car

Hi,

Either the previous owner or dealership sprayed a new car scent into the cabin.

How can I get rid of the smell? Do I need to change the cabin filter? Carpets cleaned?

Thanks in advance!

It won't last forever. Artificial scents never do. Grin and bear it for a bit and it'll be gone.

I use Febreeze ...

Spray the carpets liberally with Febreeze and then close all the doors/windows/sunroof.
Let bake for at least 2 hours in the sun.

Open all the windows, and let it bake in the sun again for 2-4 hours.

Voila! No more smell... not even the Febreeze.

If you have leather, use Meguiar's Leather Cleaner & Conditioner - it will get any smell off the leather.

If your plastics smell, use Meguiar's Interior Detailer spray.

Don't forget to clean the inside of the glass too.

you can also drive with the windows down to help speed up the process of getting rid of the smell.....

Mine will be two years old in November and still smells new inside. Garaged and has 16k miles so maybe it isn't a spray but just the way they smell!

Eventually the lighter components of the plastics (mostly) evaporate and the smell (mostly) goes away. Expect this to happen more rapidly for a car that gets left out in hot sun than one that is consistently garaged and/or shaded during the day.

I use Meguiar's leather cleaner/conditioner and febreeze ... of course, I smoke 1-3 cigars in my car every day, so I try to keep it from smelling of smoke

(It works, fyi ... my gf doesn't notice the smell if I'm not actively smoking a cigar with her in the car)
