Really strange problem...brakes come on at a 100mph!!?

Ok guys something extremly weird happened and this is the second time the car has done this now. Today i had the car WOT and as soon as i hit 100mph , The car felt like it automatically hit the brakes, my rpms dropped, and the car felt like it wanted to stop...I kept my foot to the floor to see what would happen and it went back to normal after about 2 seconds...Then about at 105mph it happend again, So i decided to stop and continue normal speed......

Now i noticed this once before the nitrous setup so i know it has nothing to do with that and the nitrous was completly off when this happend...What i can say is this happened to me after i installed my mods (just the basic bolt ons) AND only doess it at 100 MPH and after ...Does anyone have an idea what the heck could this be..Could it possibly be the tranny overheating?

Any suggestions would help thank you..

sounds like fuel cut. lots of people experienced that with the mazdaspeed 3 after a certain amount of mods.... do you have any kind of tuning ?

i was thinking the same thing about that but my bolt ons are just a cold air intake , y pipe and i use to have the bullydog/timing advance

At the time i had the bullydog tune with the timing advance, but i no longer run that because of my nitrous setup...So i pluged it in and placed everything back to stock but it happeend to me again today.

like he said i also think its the fuel is getting cut so nothing it going to engine. since your going so fast the pump maybe just cuts out and comes back never heard of this problem before

If it was a fuel cut it would happen all the time. I have no idea what could be the problem.

maybe the traction control thinks the wheels are slipping and cutting power or even applying brakes

Thats weird. I've hit 120 before and the car wanted to keep going. Like car addict said, maybe its a fault with the traction control.

How much fuel did you have in the tank when this happened? If you were running close to empty maybe the force was pushing what little fuel you had away from the pump causing it to cut out until you slowed enough for the fuel to somewhat level back out. Or maybe I watch to much NASCAR.

I've hit 122 before and the car just stopped there and wouldn't go anymore but I never noticed the brakes going on themselves or w.e. and I have pretty much the same bolt-ons as you do.

Actually the gas light was indeed on. I probably had a lil less than a quarter tank....

The car shouldnt stop even at 122, the cars governed at 146

Ok guys so i think i found out the problem and this is really interesting to me....So someone here mentioned if i had any gas in the tank, Which i musta had like less than a quarter tank. So i filled up and see if it happened again, NOTHING, car was normal past 100mph....So yesterday i waitied until i was about almost empty and as soon as i hit 100mph the car did it again. It must be the cars ECU or something cutting fuel to the engine to save gas or prevent from damaging the fuel pump.

The 146MPH fuel cut is kinda funny.Even though you have it WOT it just falls on its face and then come back alive til you hit it again.

Not related to the original question ... but have you tried engaging cruise control at over 100 mph? My 1997 Gen 4 wouldn't do it and neither will my 2009 Gen 7.

I had this problem in both my 1985 Maximas, as well as several Maximas since then. But then we aren't supposed to mention that here on the org, since that speed is not legal on the road, and we will not be using cruise control on the track.

In retrospect, we probably have no business using cruise control when we are going that fast anyway. But some of the back roads in Montana, western Texas, etc, seem to have no end as far as the eye can see, and going 70 MPH there gives the impression we are barely crawling.

I wonder what would happen actually if he did that. Obviously no positive things, the ecu would probably go crazy.

Isn't Nissan advertising that they have the automatic braking for runaway conditions like the ones that Toyota is accused of. Is it possible that the ecu is seeing some kind of condition that tells it to apply the brakes for safety reasons? Just a thought.

If I'm not mistaken Nissan's approach to what Toyota experienced as the "runaway toyota's" is very different. They installed a software update that when the car is faced with dual user input (GAS/BRAKE) the ECU will always give priority to braking versus gas.

My max has a lot of mods...no nitrous though...you guys with nitrous must be nuts...you could really kill the engine...you would have to replace all sorts of stuff....rods, pistons, cams etc.,,,what are you guys thinking? I have had my max up to 220 KPH at the test track and it keeps pulling. 100 MPH is 160 KPH. I believe that 220 is about 136 MPH!

On the highway this means that when I slam it down at 120 KPH most cars are eating my dust! It's not even a race! LOL! I do not race on public roads, do not condone it either...although we do have some pretty long and boring roads up here in Canada too!
