7th Gen Head Unit Replacement

Hello All

First off, great site!

I'm hoping someone can help out with information or tips on replacing the head unit on our 7th Gen's.

I'm being told that there is NO Install kit, harness or adapter available for our car.

I would like to replace my stock 6dsc MP3 unit with a Touch Screen DVD/Nav/Satellite radio. I would really like to keep my existing BT hardware and wiring but I'm also being told that this can not be done either.

I'm getting a lil frustrated talking to these "Techs" at my local stores. They seem like they're not really sure and speak like no one has ever modified wiring or acquired adapters for something like BT

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Is there a way to show me what specific products you added into your shopping cart? I ask because the link you posted shows the cart as empty. Thanks

Crutchfield

It allows you to select model year (2009, 2010, 2011) then you need to select the option
S = without navigation without bose
SV = without navigation with bose
Tech/Nav = With Navigation

a Qualifying receiver/GPS unit that fits should include the necessary equipment I tried it with a Pioneer GPS (Pioneer AVIC-X920BT)and the following was added

Item #142NN1664B = Nissan Maxima In-dash Receiver Kit, Fits 2009-up models, chassis sizes I and DD

Item #120707553 = Nissan/Subaru Receiver Wire Harness, for select 2007-up Nissan and 2010-up Subaru models

Item #12040NI12 = Nissan Antenna Adapter, OEM antenna to Motorola male, Works in select 2007-up Infiniti and Nissan

There is a link though that recommends Item #127SOEM4 PAC SOEM-4, Universal 4-channel line output converter ($29.99 extra) in addition to free items

From what I read about our 7th gen's, as long as you have the base entertainment system (no bose, no gps navigation, etc...) then replacing the stereo is actually quite easy. You can get adapters and install most any double din head units.

There is a big negative however, your pretty much unplugging the top 3/4 of the center display leaving just the AC settings working. You even loose the clock.

There is a huge build thread here you might get a lot of info from: http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...p-replace.html

I'm a little late to this thread but does anyone know how to add XM, or is it possible, to the stock (non bose) system in the 2010 max?

There are external tuners that can either use the input of your stereo, or broadcast over FM. I don't know of any internal upgrades that add satellite radio. If there was one, it would probably be made by isimple (www.isimplesolutions.com)

There are no dash kits for 2010's on up that have the HVAC controls down below the radio controls. I was trying to get a double din but unless we get a custom fiberglass plate made than it isn't happening ....

I've been looking for something like this but never found it, but looking at the site, i would not trust it too much. It looks amazing but I dont think the quality would be great.

They make a kit for the standard system non-nav radio to fit a single din or double din radio. Just nothing that replaces the upper screen.

OK, just in... or maybe not... this unit, Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH has a mirror function and I have been told that it can send all display to a remote monitor and that monitor could be in, lets say, the location of amber screen. The only thing that is still left out is the air temp control display.

There's alot of units before this model that does the mirror function.

I thought they could but Crutchfield said only video/audio feed can be sent to the rear monitor and this goes for all in-dash navi units. When I asked them about this new model they said it would allow viewing of navi and reverse cam from the remote monitor.

As a matter of fact this was the reason I contacted them. I wanted to know which navi head units would allow viewing of the navi/cam function from a remote monitor.
