You must not have a 7th gen Light Converter. To accumulate 100K miles this fast, the good Leiutenant is clearly moving faster than the speed of light, so a Light Converter is necessary if you wish to view photos of his ride here on the ORG.

I got my used Light Converter down at Jeb Plunkett's Bait, Tanning Bed, Nails, Massage, Notary, Alignment and Night Crawler Shack.

Jeb is a good guy. He always gives me two dozen minnows for the price of one dozen. Of course I think he does this because half his minnows are usually floating belly-up on top of the water.

...wow...you are only 14k behind my 2002!

How much driving do you do a day...? ...that averages out to about roughly 125 miles a day!!!!! (every day of the week for the last 2 years and 3 months)

Did you buy it new?

I drive about 160 - 180 Miles a day M-F. So you can see that dependability and comfort were key factors in determining what kind of car to purchase....thus my decision to get a Max. I am an IT guy so sometimes I'll get home and have to turn around and go back out. I've only had one "road trip" so far (I drove from Orlando to Ft Smith Arkansas to see my brother when I got frustrated with the flight schedules.)

This Max just loves to be driven!!! Sometimes I think I don't even have to be in the driver's seat...she can drive herself!

And yes, I bought new...just a day or two after my much loved '99 300m broke its timing belt with 250K on it (and we know 7th Gens have timing chains not belts!!!)

Okay.....I am just going to ask a quick question....please no flames in my direction.....but....here it goes....

With all of this driving....how come you didn't go for a hybrid....gas must be killing ya....(a fill up at least 2-3 times a week?)....just thinking out loud.....

It is a fair question.
Quite frankly...they are too small (at least the only ones I saw two years ago were the Hondas and Prius') I'm 6'4" and have to be in the car 3+ hours a day...I "NEED" to be comfortable. Today, maybe a different decision could be made, but as I don't know the "reliability" of these hybrids (recall, I DEPEND on my transportation) or the comfort factor of the new ones, I would probably stay with a Max if nothing else, just because it seems very solid.

Others would argue that I could get a flea bag hotel for what I spend in gas...true, but then again, that would argue against the comfort factor as well!!

i didn't think to use chrome, i use firefox mostly. That is crazy that you have over 100K miles. A well maintained car will run for a long long time!

As far as a hybrid goes, those really won't help him out due to his being mostly highway. In town yes it will help, but on the highway the batteries really don;t do much. maybe on a large hill they will help, but for the most part they are just extra weight.

Im sure he could have gotten a smaller car like a little VW Diesel, that would get him great highway miles, but then again its not a big comfy car like the maxima. Hey plus its your money, you get the car you want right

What all have you done maint wise?

BlackMax...that is a really good point...I didn't think about that but you are right.....if it is mostly highway miles then you are right....it probably won't be of too much benefit.....but on the other hand....a diesel would.....do I here BMW 335d.....now that would be a nice diesel to drive around

Yep. BlackMax is correct. Many hybrids do indeed outperform gasoline powered cars in city driving, with a big factor being the conversion of braking force to generated electricity. That is why many hybrids get great city fuel efficiency, but not especially good highway fuel efficiency.

Hybrids also bring more recent technology into the picture, and the hybrid systems do not yet have the proven reliability of our old-timey internal combustion powered cars. I also tend to be concerned with having a huge battery pack underneath me, especially if there was a major collision. And I hear these battery packs do wear out, and are very expensive to replace.

But I would still be tempted by hybrids if I did mostly in-town and suburban driving.

I am still very hopeful the 8th gen Maxima wil give us a diesel option. With gas now north of $3.00 a gallon ($3.09, $3.29 and $3.49 at many stations near me), this should be an incentive for Nissan to reconsider the diesel they originally planned for the 2010 Maxima.

Oil at every 5K
Tires Replaced at 75K
Battery at 95K
CVT Fluid changed at 36K, 75K will do again soon. Will probably change all the belts at the same time (pro-actively)
Bosch Icons every 6 months or so
Cabin Filter every 6 months
Engine Air Filter every 2nd oil change or earlier if needed.

A real solid performer to date.

Those 335d, are sweet! I just can't get past the high price and the interior! For me the max was the best bang for the buck!

Light you are correct about the max. My brother in law works for nissan, and he was sad to hear they shelved the idea for the diesel max due to the recession. He has hopes that they will come out with one sometime. I will admit, that I will most likely change to that. Way more torque, and lots better mileage! I would suspect that it should get 34MPG highway fairly easy. Plus it would be fun to see the looks on peoples faces when filling it with diesel!

Leary, sounds like to take good care of your car! It should last you another 200K easily! Make sure you get a good wax and put on it too, especially with your salt air and uv rays!! Then you will keep it looking as good as its running! Keep up the good work

If you mean, do I have it analyzed between my 5000 mile changes...no; but if you mean, do I check the oil levels?? Every Fill-up!! (Old habits are hard to break and sometimes, shouldn't be!!!)

I have my oil changed at the local Jiffy Lube that I have been going to for the last 10 years. The manager takes good care of me and ensures no "pimply face, ham fisted, whippersnapper" gets to touch anything but the vacuum cleaner and window washing apparatus. He does the "pit work" himself and even if they are out of my mobile 1, will dash across the street to the parts store to get me some.

Looks like you drive your cars until the wheels fall off, sort of but I must ask, a 99 300m is/was ten years old, your 09 Maxima with 100k in 2 years, what changed.

wow floormats every 6 months ?

would you say the first ones built in mid to late 2008 were the higher quality ones ? seems like a lot of the problems are coming from those built in the 2009 and 2010 range?

Well the floormats seem to get it on the seams next to the seat (that I have all the way back) and are exposed to my feat traispin on the seam. It doesn't appear to like that usage (the rest of the mat is fine)

Re other issues...I can't really say...if anything, It would appear that the number of issues on the later gen cars is about the same as us early adopters. Some have none, while others have a few. No rhyme or reason that I can see yet.

Wow, you do drive em to the wheels fall off. We bought our cars around the same time and I don't even have half of that but hey it's cool and I'm happy to know that someone has pushed this car and we can see that the ol trusty Nissan reliability is still intact even in this car.

I love Nissans, they really overbuild these cars when you think about and the engine and cvt can take it, other things may go bonkers here and there but you can rest assure that the engine and cvt will still soldier on.

Water Pump? You know something about these 7th gens I don't? Is this a historical failure item with Maximas? If so, I'll add that to the preventive maintenance schedule!!!!

All I can say too is WOW! That is impressive. But really since they are all highway miles and as good as you keep up with maintenance, I am sure you can easily get 300k!

100k in 2 years.
200k by 4th year.
So, does that mean you might be getting 300k by 6th year?
Then what if you keep it as your 300m that you had for 10 years? Does that mean we would be seeing like 500k from this Max? I'm just saying, lol.

Nice figures you got there. Keep up treating her right. She would return the favor.

If she keeps going as nice and trouble free as she has been..wouldn't half a million miles be a nice goal!!!
