My neighbor's Civic Si had two of it's 4 rims stolen. They would have taken all four but the car fell on the side they had already taken off. He didn't hear a thing and neither did I and we both park in driveways right in front of our houses. Sucks.

So today I found a notice from the precinct that they are offering free rim vin etching.

Someone tell what impact that has on prevention or recovery of stolen rims? Is it worth taking in (I know it's free)?

I think it is, This might prevent people from stealing wheels MAYBE. They would have to scratch the code off, and no one's gonna buy wheels if its scratched off.

Yeah, I guess I will make an appointment and get it done. It's a lease, I should just confirm with the dealership that it's ok.

sounds like a preventative measure the local PD is taking, hopefully word will get out and the thieves will stop targeting that area. i think its a good idea but its really not gonna stop it from happening all together unfortunately
