Steering column screw caps

Does anyone know how to remove the screw caps on the steering wheel column to take off the steer column(plastic) top and bottom covers? I am pretty sure they have a cut out on the right and left side but am having difficulty getting them off.

If someone knows a way to get these off without damaging the plastic it would be appreciated.

The access hole caps have opposing lip tabs and can be removed by prying/pinching. The caps will flex enough to easily pop off.

Both of mine kept falling out while driving and don't seem to fit well enough to be re-installed. I mentioned this last week while getting an oil change and the service tech couldn't re-install them either. They are ordering replacements and said not to worry - they will even replace the entire steering wheel if needed!

Do you pry them open on the rounded side or the side or the furthest right(on the right side) and furtherest left (on the left side)

That just says to pry it.. and I've tried that but I don't want to ruin the plastic.

Just relax and do it gently. It's NOT an egg.

I think the OP wants to know which side of the plug is safest/easiest to pry from. Think of the battery door on a TV remote control. If you pry from the side with the fixed tabs, the tabs may break off.

Are these tabs like that, or can you pry from any side and still safely pop them off.

The caps have a slight bend built in. You should pry from the lowest edge - imagine an exaggerated horseshoe shape: push in on the end of either "leg".

The plastic is fairly pliable so it should not break too easily.
