19" Tire choices - Recommendations?!

Hey everyone,

Wondered if I could get a recommendation on replacement tires for my 2009 SV wi Sport Maxima (P245/40R19).
  • Bridgestone Potenza's - $240/tire
  • Hankook - $200/tire.
  • Sumitomo - $240/tire
I know next to bugger all about tires, any recommendations on makes would be greatly appreciated! My OEM Bridgestones have done approx 37K.

Thanks!

Agreed, the Pzero is a great tire especially in warmer climate like LA. From your list I'd go with the Potenza, but do consider the Pirelli or even a Dunlop dont get cheap tires!!

I have read many good reports here on the Org about Continental DWS tires. I think they are under $200 each, but someone here that is driving on them will be better able to give us exact data.

Thanks, I won't get cheap tires trust me! Nissan of Santa Monica want around $350 per tire for the OEM Bridgestone Potenzas, now that's an unexciting purchase!! I'll see if I can source some Pzeros, thanks! Thanks to Stormzusmc too

What do you want in a tire? longevity, road noise, comfort, performance, price?

I asked myself those same questions and decided on some Continental ExtremeContact DWS. Since the tires gave me a bit of everything I wanted.

Compared to my oem potenzas, these tires are not like hockey pucks during the cold rain. haha.

Right now i have 20"s, but i did have 19"s on the Max before. I only have experience with Potenzas in 19" from your list, but in 20" i've had Hankook Ventus EVOs and Bridgestone Potenzas in 20" from your list. As far as my experience goes...

Bridgestone: Great handling, great ride quality, low road noise, LOW LOW LOW tire life.

Hankook: Great handling, decent ride quality, mid road noise, still going strong at 14k miles.

So it's really a trade off inbetween ride quality/road noise and tire life. Personally i think i'm either going back to the Potenzas and living with the low life span of the tires, or trying out the Conti DWS as mentioned above. The Hankooks i have now are just too loud for my taste.

Thanks for all that info, much appreciated! I do a load of freeway mileage to and from work so I might steer clear from the Hankook's, last thing I want is more road noise. Then again I'm usually driving at 5mph out here so it might not be an issue!!

I've actually been quite happy with the Potenzas, even in the wet out here. I'll have a look at the Continental DWS's and see how they stack up price wise. From what I'm reading here I'm leaning towards the Bridgestones again. If the Continental's are in the same price range I'll definitely have a look.

Thanks!

Yeah i'm not sure what everyone has against the Potenzas i blew through water like it wasn't there with them. I've used them on both my 350z and the Max. They're expensive, but hey it was like driving in a soundproof cabin and the car drove itself. My friend said it drove nicer than her Benz with the Potenzas...

Ever since i switched to Hankooks my car pulls like crazy and it sounds like i'm in a hailstorm. Maybe i just have bad luck with Hankooks though *shrugs*

I replaced my Potenzas with the Hankook Ventus and while not as stiff a sidewall as the Potenzas, they handle great and I found the Hankooks to have less road noise. I have talked to several people who switched over to the Hankook and evey one of them loved the tire. They usually rate very high in head to head tire comparisons as well.

I have heard a lot of great things about the Continental DSW. Try those.

Or go with Yokohama S-drive! I hear those are good too.

As for me, I have a 6thgen with the 2010 Maxima 19s. My replacement tires in the very near future would be Yokohama Advan S4 in the size 255/40/19. I am not going with the stock 245/40/19.

I ended up going with the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport's for $240 a tire. Fingers crossed they serve me well! Thanks for all the tips above!!
