Does anybody have a clear bra on their Max?
Does anybody have a clear bra on their Max?
When I purchased the car I totally thought the dealer was trying to rip me off so I passed. But I am thinking about having the car touched up and detailed (damn swirls) and I was considering looking into them depending on how expensive and effective they were. Does anyone have one, is it something you can do yourself or something you have to pay to do. How much does an install cost and is it truely worth it? Good Looking out!
I dont have one but I've seen it done. Definitely needs to be done by a professional as it needs to be heated/wrapped properly. The guy I know uses 3M and he charges around $250 - $300 depending on the car. I'd have to say its $ well spent IMO. The 3M stuff will stop a stone chip even at highway speed and it can be removed anytime. I was thinking of having mine done

I thought about these too. But you can always weigh that cost against the cost of having the front bumper painted in a few years. Not sure what that would cost. But I have seen those and I would only have a pro put it on. They look good when put on right
I got mine done when I purchased the car and this the best $500.00 ever invested especially with our winters here in Calgary. The hood, bumper and mirror are done and glad to report that everything still looks like brand new even after three winters. I did the same thing on my two other cars (2010 Rogue & 2008 Shelby GT500) and extremely happy with the results and the protection you get.
Two new points to consider.
- Do not use a discount material. Dealer or maybe even the manufacturer installed some over the rear wheel wells and it has yellowed probably not UV resistant. I installed 3M and it is a better material.
- Consider doing the headlight covers and the front door sills.
By ClearBra are you referring to 3M's Scotchguard Paint Protection film?
If so, are there other products that should be considered?
Thanks - thinking about getting the front end covered with this or a nose mask but would prefer clearbra.

Paint Protection Film
I just had the Xpel paint protection film put on my black '11 Maxima. I had the bumper, half the hood, fenders and mirrors done. The cost was just over $1,000. You can definitely see it when you are up close to the car but once you step away a little bit, you can't tell it's on. It distorts the reflection in the paint up close but I really like it and don't think it takes away from the look of the car.
I would definitely recommend having a professional do the installation. They had my car for two full days and there are still some small air bubbles in it. They told me they should evaporate but if they don't, they can insert a syringe and pull out the remaining air.

I have em on my Max. Don't have em on the bumper though, but it is on all the doors, hood, sides, mirrors and headlights! Looks good and I believe it is worth the dough. I was lucky it came with the car!
I have a clear bra on the hood, front bumper, front fenders, A pillar, on the roof in front of the sunroof, behind the door handles, on the "mud guards", all the way down the sides on the part below the doors (can't think the name) and behind the rear wheels on what becomes the rear bumper and on the rear bumper where the trunk opens. It's a product by Llumar and while I love their window tint, I haven't been won over by this stuff. It shows swirl marks like crazy and I don't use anything harsh to wash the car with so I'm not sure where they came from. There were factory guys from Llumar in the shop the day I had it done so I paid for product only, no labor fees. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had all that done.
I got mine done when I purchased the car and this the best $650.00 invested on my Max sofar got the hood, bumper and mirror done. I did the same thing on my two other cars (2007 Corvette and my girl sexy lexy 2000 GS 400.)
I just did it my self.. alot of videos on Y tube.. I did mine in my garage at night, cleaned it very well, door down and ac on.. it was very hard at first, did the entire pakage, the front facia is the hardest, as it one piece for the entire front bumper cover.. but like window tint, you learn to keep it wet once you have it place you use a water alcohol mixure and squeegie the water out.. and it sticks hard.. the car is 8 mils the headlights were 20 mils! but a hair dryer did the trick and alot of patients..
So I did the A-pillars, the mirrors, the fenders, the top and bottom facia. total coast as about $375 for the pre-cut kits... the dealers and detailers wanted $750 to $900. This was my first time trying and It was almost perfect but for a few blemishes due to airbourne dirt.. it did take me the better part of 12 hours..
Good luck, its worth the investment...

Well it gets better as you do it more.. that was my fist time doing it.. the head leights are the hardest.. the material is 20 mils thick!.. so it takes a blow dryer or heat gun to get it to lay right..
I just did my Wifes Altima last night and it tool me about 6 hours... the local shops want $800 to do it, I bought the 3M material from cleardefender on Ebay, they are in Clearwater Fl.. the price for the my MAX was $355.. the Altimas was $256..
Trust me, its tough but with patients and study of the online video on Y-tube, you can do it too.. Down here in Florida, the love bugs hit us 2 times a year and they will destroy your paint if not removed within 12 hours.. this material will stop that and prevent chipped paint as well.
Both of the kits I did included the entire front, lights, mirrors, A-pillar, half hood and fenders.. all the "forward" facing areas prone to stuff hitting the car while in motion.. I think I will be adding the trunk area that is exposed to being hit when loading stuff in the trunk..

I am using the Ventureshield Ultra on my Maxima. Very pleased with it so far. Cost of the product and install was $500 for the Full bumper/24" up the Hood/fender/Lights/Fogs. The clear coat finish on it looks great and from most angles You cannot tell it is there unless you are really specifically looking for it.
