Question about Maintenance

So i already hit 15,000 mileage, do u guys recommend going to the dealership to get a maintenance or its not that necessary because they usually just inspect stuff and replace the basic stuff. the dealership asked for 285 so i wonder if you guys usually do it or not.

I usually go to the dealer up until the warranty voids just to cover my ***... after that I do it.

When does the warranty end, apparently mine is not covered. I thought I'm suppose to get it until a certain mileage

Basic warranty: 36 months or 36K miles, whichever comes first.

The power train (engine, tranny, etc) has a longer warranty: 5 years or 60K miles, whichever comes first.

If you have an '09 Maxima (this may also apply to the '10, but definitely not the '11), you also have a ten year 120K mile warranty on the CVT.

The maintenance isn't free with that... It's a warranty not s service plan.

The warranty covers stuff that malfunctions or breaks on your car that is nissans fault not regular maintenance.

So unless you went in for warranty work you have to pay.

Just change your oil and rotate your tires per the manual,

anything goes wrong then take it to the dealer to get free warranty repair

I looked at the manual to see what they were going to do at the 15k and just did it myself or had my mechanic do the rest. Did the in-cabin filter myself, was very easy.

Then bought my mechanic a 24 pack for inspecting everything and bought my own Mobil 1 oil and had him put it in for 10 bucks. Definitely gave him a tip.

The brakes/rotors/tire balancing/rotation happened when I put on my 19's, install my Eibach's, and installed my EBC brake pads.

Only thing I didn't get was to flush the CVT transmission fluid. Can you buy this transmission fluid yourself? Haven't been able to find it anywhere.

I havent read the manual but Im almost positive the CVT fluid doesnt need changing until 50-60k if not higher. Plus these cvt's take 5-8qts at $12-15 a pop PLUS labor.

I have a jeep patriot with a CVT, fluid change required at 60k, I actually did it at 90k, now she's at 170k running fine

CVT is completely enclosed. There is no fill or dip stick any where easily accessible.

Ah yes just found out ours is locked, probably to prevent people from putting in normal tranny fluid into the CVT. Good to know it's usually not needed until 60k so I'll ignore it.

Dude,
you are so wrong. The car has both a dip stick tube and a drain plug. The dip stick has a special cap on it, that's tricky to undo, but I did it just fine with a small screwdriver. To check the fluid you rotate the dipstick 180 degrees, so that the cap does not relock in place.

DUDE,

OK.

If you re-read my post I SAID EASILY ACCESSIBLE. Read the owners manual.

What did you mean to say by: "CVT is completely enclosed"?
Are there transmissions that are partially enclosed?
Perhaps you meant to say that transmission is sealed? Which it is not.

When I inquired about the price of CVT fluid at the dealer, they gave me a puzzled look and said that Maxima does not have a filler tube.

How about we start with service manual:
here is the link http://members.***.net/~m.kosover/max%20tranny.pdf

If you want to call that child proof lock on that filler tube as NOT easily accessible, I guess we will agree to disagree on that point.

In closing, I suggest you open Maxima's hood once in a while, you may just discover that ubiquitous CVT filler tube.
good luck
Max
