Stock Muffler with Resonators Removed

I came from a G35 sedan and changed the mid pipe (which contained the resonator) with the G Coupe mid pipe. It made the exhaust a little louder. I am looking to make the exhaust louder in the Maxima. I do not want it really loud like most after market exhausts. Just a little bit of rumble when I take off would be nice and during startup.

I'm not sure if anyone has swapped out the resonator with a straight pipe or a magnaflow resonator. Any suggestions? Any sound clips?

UPDATE
Sound Clip with aftermarket resonator and stock mufflers

Sound clip from iPhone will take a better video soon:

Sounds great in person

Thanks for the sound clip. That does sound like crap. I just want my stock setup a little louder. Any suggestions? Would replacing the resonator with a mangaflow help? Or I was thinking of changing to aftermarket mufflers (nothing to loud) and keeping the stock exhuast tips.

I actually removed the stock mufflers and replaced them with pipe. I did not remove the resonator though because of the resonance in the cabin (found that out from a buddy's 5th-gen). Anyway, the DOHC motors sound really good with no mufflers, almost like a small-block Dodge. They don't have any nasty blat or buzz. They are a little louder than the Stillen set-up but IMO well worth the reduced price. I'll upload a clip shortly and let you hear them.

I would just change out the mufflers, thats it. No need to cut out the resonator, it will just make it really loud at idle.

Thanks,
Went to an exhaust shop today. He told me first that he will replace the resonator with a aftermarket Vibrant 1972 12" resonator. Since I know removing the resonator creates a good amount of noise, I'm assuming going with an aftermarket, smaller resonator should make it a little bit louder.

This should make the stock setup a little louder. I just want some grunt when taking off. I want it to feel like stock when cruising and at highway speeds. If its still not loud enough, he will change out the mufflers. I will keep you guys posted. I was referred to this guy from my buddy that has a turbo 350 that did a custom exhaust for him.

I have the Ypipe and the Borla catback and uploaded sound clips and vids to youtube. The sound you hear on youtube makes it sound perfect. but in person it sounds almost completely stock. a stock g35 sounds better stock then mine with the pipes.

Here is some clips, judge for yourself.

Here's a short clip of my "cheap" exhaust. There is a small amount of drone between 1500-1800 rpm, but other than that it's quiet inside. It sounds wicked outside though! Just for clarification, this is not a '74 Chevy pickup w/cherry bombs kind of wicked. This is nice.

Weird your Borla tips look super tiny, I have the original prototype Borla as it was my car that was donated for the development of the exhaust at Borla. I hope they didn't change it....

http://forums.maxima.org/7632271-post131.html

It's hard to tell in videos as phones have crappy mics but my exhaust is louder than yours no doubt about it.

Well, I didn't think I was deaf. Now that I have been enlightened of my shortcomings, I feel that it would only be prudent for me to consider Borla. You think they still have any room in their guinea pig program? My wife is expecting and she probably wouldn't see the value in buying a high-dollar exhaust system when we are getting our nursery outfitted
I knew I should not have bought her that new Altima!!! LOL

The best and cheapest thing to do is go custom when it comes to exhaust, get some mufflers and a less restrictive resonator.

Going into the shop to change out resonators. If there is a change in exhaust note, I will upload a sound clip as soon as possible.

I am thinking about just swapping out the stock mufflers with some 11" case magnaflows, leaving the stock resonator to keep the drone away.

What is yalls take?

Are the exhaust mods you guys doing all bolt-ons or do they require welding? I'm tempted to try some bolt-ons to see how they affect noise/power but welding seems like too permanent for experimenting...at least at first for me.

Danny, anytime u change the resonators or mufflers, it all requires cutting and welding, thats why I havent done anything.

Oh aight thanks for the clarification. So Borla cat-backs and Racingline Y-pipes are bolt-ons for example but everything behind the cats needs cutting?

Sounds great with aftermarket resonator and stock muffler. On a plane now so no sound clip till Sunday. Sounds like the G/Z with no drone and stock sound on the highway.

Vibrant Resonator

Retains stock sound at cruising speeds and no drone. Sounds stock on the highway, which I like since I do a lot of highway driving. It was worth the $100 for everything.

Can anyone weigh in on this, are the newer borlas really smaller and quieter?

Yes they are quiet. From borla u would expect a good sounding exhaust but this one is real quiet. My axle back stollen exhaust was louder than this catback

Sounds great to me. Don't understand the problem? Making the car louder is going to accomplish what?
