Not unless you are stepping up from 87 octane. The performance differences between 89 (midgrade) and 94 (super premium) are detectable only via electronic timing.

But when dropping to regular gas (octanes below 89), some 7th gen Maximas still are able to adjust and carry on at slightly reduced performance, while other 7th gens just do not run well with regular gas.

My wife filled up ONCE with regular and on local NYC driving it truly killed the performance on acceleration and the car was louder (although this may have been in m head). Took two fills at mid-grade and performance is back. Ran super before that and I have to agree there isnt a noticeable negative impact going from super to mid.

Now, now. Everyone should treat this thread with more respect. It is the 1,000,000th octane thread for the Maxima, and the exact millionth Maxima octane thread deserves special consideration.

Besides, after just a few thousand divergent responses, this thread will again go the way of the dodo bird (as all octane threads eventually do), at which time we can relax for a week, then the 1,000,001st Maxima octane thread will begin, and we can recontend anew.

I think the mods should instantly shut these threads down and delete them. Their servers are 80% full because of threads about octane just in the 7th gen forum.

But that'd be too much to ask

Hey, I volunteer here in addition to a full time job, if folks SEE a lame duck thread that's been done before, use the "report post" button and I get an instant email notification of it.

Anyway, SEARCH button is your friend, plenty of these threads around.
Closing.
