Questions for people who already have aftermarket rims.......

I have a couple questions for people who already have aftermarket rims on their maxima, I've already read through all the threads on rims and there were no clear cut answers for what i need to know.

1. For 22" rims, what is the ideal width and offset so that there would be no rubbing.

2. For 22" rims, what is the ideal tire size to keep with the stock 18's overall height (speedometer purposes).

3. What are decent/good tire brands? I live in Michigan, but these rims will only be on the car from April - October. (no snow)

4. I keep seeing people referencing to other posters when they get their rims to get their car dropped. Are there any pictures out there of current Maxima's with 22" WITHOUT a drop? Even 20's WITHOUT a drop?

If worse comes to worse, and I need to go with 20" rims, please answer the 4 questions pertaining to 20" rims also.

Thanks!

I have 20's and they are PLENTY big... 22's would be overkill. I have a staggered setup.

Front: 20x8.5 B35 245/35/20
Rear: 20x10 B40 275/30/20

Looks like a bulldog.

I have Nexen N3000 tires and I have only heard good things about them. I have only had them for 3 days so i cannot give opinions yet.

1. Depends on the width. I have 22x8.5 with +35 offset. And the front rubs just a little if i hit a dip too fast.
2. 245/30/22
3. Pirelli is my favorite. But i couldnt afford those this time.
4. Link in my signature for pics. My youtube sn is JayR04 if you wanna see a video.

Car Addict, looks nice, do you have a drop on yours? What tires did you end up going with?

Stock suspension. I think the tires are fullway hp198. They ride good but are a little loud. Had them for about a year so far. No problems yet.

I highly doubt that you can find a 22" tire that maintains the OD of the 245/45-18, let alone find something that is also big enough in terms of load capacity for the weight of your Max. You need a Load Index 96 tire, though you can normally get by with a LI 95 tire as long as you're willing to 'up' the inflation pressure to make up the lost load capacity.

Just to show you what the 22" picture might look like, the diameter "match" in a 30 series tire would be no wider than a 205/30, which is not nearly enough tire. And forget about a 26.7" tall tire in 22" wheel size being able to protect your rims from damage if you do anything with it except trailer it to car shows. FWIW, the smallest thing I could find in 22's during a brief search over at Tire Rack is 265/30-22, and that one is well over 28" tall.

Long story short, there is no "ideal 22" size", since it is not physically possible to meet your speedometer requirement without badly overloading said tires.

In 20", either a 245/35 or a 285/30 (285/30 is a better match for diameter AND load capacity than 275/30, if it'll fit). Put the 245's on rims that are at least 8.5" wide and the 275's or 285's on 9" or 9.5" respectively, and plan on running a couple more psi inflation than "door sticker pressure" in order to make up the load capacity. Add maybe a psi or two on top of that to help minimize the chance of getting pinch flats and bent wheel flanges.
