Question We all need a set of...

Well, at least I do. I have a friend who is willing to produce a nice set of headers for our cars if we want. I bet this will sound real nice and free up a bit more power.Probably not to much without a tune but a lil can be had I'm sure. I hear so many G35's stock and not stock that have such a nice PURRRR to them and I bet our 7th gen's can have the same with this mod.
I know that I can't stand that I forked out all the $$$ for the R2C intake,Y-Pipe,and Borla cat-back and this thing is still so tame sounding. How bottle necked is the factory headers on these? I know the cats are in them and that alone tones it down a bit,but I want the grumble that I know this motor can make.I'm ready to bite the bullet and give it a shot, but I wanted to see if others have interest as well?

Here is the guy who will be doing them : http://www.maximumpsi.com/services/
His name is Mike and you can see from his site all the great things he brings to the table. In the past he has fab'd up some manifiolds, exhausts, etc for my turbo Raptor 700R,Supra's,GT2,etc. He is the man for the job.The more interest I see in this project and when I show him this thread he will be glad to make these for us to show off to everyone.
The only downside we can see from this is when we R&D the header on the Dyno the CVT and ECU wont allow us to make max power. The CVT will make the chart look all screwy like all the other dyno charts we have seen from other 7th gens and the ECU will keep holding us back without a tune.I'm sure it will yeild more power but with a tune in the future it will show more.
Anyone have a fix or suggestions on a CEL simulator for when the new header is in place?I dont mind seeing the CEL light on but others may not.

I'd be interested. I know what my roommate did on his truck when he deleted his cat was programmed his ECU to ignore that one specific code to keep the light from coming on. I'm not sure if that's a preferred method though....

It be interesting to see what he could do in the tight FWD set-up.

This is sort of backward, but this is a good read, headers bolt right up, the only issue are how it bolts up inside the A35 chassis vs the A33.

I took a ride over to speak with Mike about what can be done to make this happen. He gave me a few options and routes to go:

1) make these from scratch, they wil be high cost but be as finished as any other company could ever produce.

2) possibly rework another set from another platform like the VQ30, the cost is fair to produce but the finished look and function will be limited.

3) Buy a stock set and "Sleeve them to make them a straight through design eleminating the cats, cost is cheap and a simple bolt on and off to change out for when emmisions is needed.

This is what came to mind in the short time we talked about tit.The more info and feedback I can get from you guys will save time and US some money getting these done.I feel with no tune these wont do to much but sound real mean and clean!

Maybe these would be a good model to base it on:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissa...ht_4065wt_1165

Relatively cheap so it keeps prices somewhat lower

Define high cost. We pay about 900$ for ours.

It's an FWD sedan, not an RWD coupe, our options are limited as it is, let's try not and cheap out.

It's really quiet with the stock exhaust actually.

And just an FYI, headers are the single best improvement for FWD VQ's whp.

Upwards of 25-30whpm untuned.

I couldnt justify a $900 tag for headers when OBX's fit just fine, see the same gains, and is 33% of that price.

Our header design needs to be from the new altima, not old one. The gain is so limited that its better off just doing highflow precats.

btw i did this 2 years ago.

You did what 2 years ago? Designed headers and never sold any or just a 1-off set? And who said anything about the old (L31) Altima?

Also, what's your reasoning behind "limited"?

The L32 Altima does indeed seem like the best option to base off any research regarding fitment for headers though.

High cost meaning for a full bolt on perfect fitting set with Dyno #'s would cost $1775. I think that is kinda high but he says they would be perfect.
Of course factoring R&D time and a few sets to make it right that price isnt that bad.He said if there was a group by pre-ordered the price would drop considerbly. But as you can see on his site the exhaust systems he has made from scratch is made very well and has the numbers to prove it.

We can always go the other 2 routes mentioned above for an alternate solution?I prefer going all out for max gains.

if this has the same effect on the Max, I might be in too. $1800 is a bit much but im really curious to see where this goes.

I have the $$$ for this, but the fact that in two years the car goes back to Nissan is keeping me form doing it. Ill happily spend 1600 for an extra 30 ponies to the wheels and a nice exhaust note.

Since I sold the MAX I wont be able to get this done. But for anyone who does I can hook you up with the shop owner to go forward with this.
