Removed Negative Battery Cable
Removed Negative Battery Cable
Hey guys, i installed my new intake and it required me to remove my negative battery terminal which to my knowledge resets the computer in the car? I noticed my odometer area is dimmer than usual and that my windows dont have the automatic roll up feature anymore... Any suggestions on how to get it back to normal?
Thanks

I seem to recall you roll the windows completely down, then roll them up and keep your finger on the up button for ten more seconds or something like that, then it should work. You may have reset each window individually.
I think you also have to hold the close button on the roof/sunroof down for ten seconds to reset it.
But I have never had my battery disconnected, so am half-guessing on all this. Lots of folks here have had their battery out, and will be able to tell us exactly what has to be done when they see this thread in a few hours.
The dash brightness gets reset as well when you disconnect the battery. Just twist the little black cylinder on the IP clockwise to turn your brightness back up. Easy as pie!
Excellent deduction. I tend to forget that little A/B trip mileage resetting cylinder also controls instrument panel brightness.

So, in short; disconnecting the battery will cause the following items to be reset:
1) Auto-down feature on windows
2) Radio station presets (and any fade/balance/treble/bass settings)
3) Instrument Panel brightness (both day and night settings)
4) Short term fuel trims (back to factory default)
5) Transmission programming (back to factory default)
All newer transmissions have a 'learning' feature that adapts to your driving style. The cycle for the CVT is much shorter than a normal geared transmission since there are no shift points in the CVT.
I've had to disconnect my battery twice and I can tell you that each time I take the car out for a drive after doing so, it feels a bit sluggish. Throttle tip-in is slower, doesn't have the same feel as before. The sluggish feel is also attributed to the ECM re-learning the fuel trims for your driving style as well. If you usually rip it to redline frequently, you'd definitely notice a difference right off the bat.
My 2001 Grand Prix for example shifted like an old Cadillac after disconnecting the battery. After about a week or so of my normal driving habits, the TCM and ECM caught up to speed again and all was normal.

Oh my God, I love you! No homo of course... lol, but this has been happening to me and I was like wtf is happening!? I guess I just have to drive it more often for it to get back where i want it too. Thanks for the help!
Hahaha, no problem dude. Glad I could help. After a couple hundred miles, car should feel as it did prior to resetting the ECM.
Interesting, I didn't know this either. Wonder if this also learns a little from the mods you put on, cause its been over a week since I got the Borla on and it definitely feels like it pulls harder now than it first did. Also good to know that when I put the Y pipe on I should wait a week or so before gauging the results. Thanks man!
