TSB ****138 tranny reflash is not hype!

While at the dealership having my steering column worked on, I had them do the reflash of my tranny. While I was using a '11 max as a rental along with a new murano convertable, I noticed that the new max 0-40 was much quicker than my '09. After the reflash, it feels exactly the same as the '11, if not a touch stronger. It does idle about 150 higher, but the 0-40 increase really is that much better. I have the R2C CAI and the BOP's and this max seriously flies now. It feels like I'm driving a different car.

What do you mean by "Reflash" ? If what your saying helps improve the car, It's worth looking into when the Max goes into the dealership next week.

it's an ECU reprogram that helps with acceleration at low speeds. your car will idle at higher RPMs as well and you can expect to see a 1-2 mpg decrease. i had this done and yeah it makes it faster but you do lose some mileage since overall the RPM's are higher than they were before at any given time

Ive tried about 10 times to have the dealership do this for me, they keep saying they have NO idea what Im talking about and that the only recall open on my car is for the Sat Nav software upgrade.

it's not a recall, it's a TSB (technical service bulletin) to address an issue with acceleration being sluggish. apparently it's not available for all cars they have to run your VIN and see if you're eligible. I went into my dealership for a few other things and just gave them the TSB and asked if I was eligible. When I picked the car up they said I was and they applied the reprogram. cool little boost in pickup

would u say the car is just more responsive from the ecu flash since the rpm is higher all the time do you think this would have an impact on 1/4 mile time under WOT or is the speed gains noticed only when driving with the car not WOT pedal to the floor

so would this make the car faster ... or just feel faster since its at a higher rpm most of the time ? i dont want to lose fuel mpg's if i can get the same speed from just flooring it... any input from those that have the mod would be welcomed please and thank you .

It is mainly for the '09 and some '10's. I drove a 11 and 12 and they felt like mine after the reflash. The reflash brought my '09 up to that same level as the new ones

I'm going to go check this out on Monday, hopefully it applies to my 2010. It pains me as to how slow this car is off the line.

I also bought my 09 maxima 2-3 months ago and I also feel it being a little sluggish off the line and just called my local dealership and gave them this TSB number and of course the service person had no idea, but said he would ask the tech andcall me back, hope my car is eligable for this!
This site is great!!

Im not sure how the warranty stuff works but a TSB is not a recall. He might have to pay for the labor.....took my guys about 10 mins to do. I have a good relationship with my service manager, I think that makes a dif too.

I had mine reflashed (ECM and TCM) at no charge at all. Mine was built in Sept of 2009, so it was in the build years that qualified for the re-tune.

But yeah, you're right- only takes 5-10 mins for them to reflash everything. My mileage went down about 1mpg, but the response is much snappier now with the new programming.

The powertrain warrenty on the car is 5/60k so he should still be good if they are talking about tranny.
Well I got a call back from the dealership and they said they would have to look at my car and go from there, I asked them if they knew what the TSB was and he said NO, they would have to look at the car and he said your tranny could be bad!! WTF?? so I think I will make an appointment someday next week and take it in.

Just came back from the Marlboro nissan, i asked about the TSB, they gave me a check list of symptoms which we discussed here. Then they checked the tranny model number to make sure it was in the TSB list...and tomorrow am i am getting the tranny flashed!

So I've been reading through different TSBs and trying to find the full bulletin online, with no success. Is it frowned upon for anyone to scan these in and provide them to us? I went to Nissan's site assuming to find the full bulletin, however, there are only brief descriptions with an option to purchase the full bulletin. WTF

You'll notice the nice power gain . And I also now after a week have noticed a drop of about 1-2mpg. Depending also on how hard I drive it cause it's alot more fun to drive now

OMG! What a difference. Took the Max in for this as well as the broken tilt steering column (which they have to order a motor for). Anyway, I was able to pick up the car today, and what a HUGE difference. I immediately felt the difference just coming out of the dealer lot. LOTS of power upon initial acceleration. Trully feels like a 290HP car now. Even while going 30, 50, and even 70, you can feel a lit bit more strength. I can't believe I went so long without getting it flashed.

FWIW,

I'm at the dealer now and they agreed to flash my car for this TSB. It's raining out so I won't be able to wring the car out but I DO hope it fixes my vibrations issues which cause cabin rattles around 35MPH. I've also heard peeps report that they idle was bumped up a bit too which I'm hoping will fix the rough idle my car exhibits when I'm sitting in it at idle. It currently idles at about 550 rpm and bumping it up with the pedal manually to 650-700 rpm smooths it right out.

Also, FWIW, someone earlier asked about people in Massachusetts getting this done and where. I'm at the Coastal Nissan dealership in Norwell, MA. I just reported that my car vibrated under slight acceleration when the torque converter was locked up at around 30-35mph. They read me the statement from Nissan about his being normal and that my mpg would decrease. I agreed and they said they would flash it.

Well, my initial impression is that I haven't really noticed much. My idle is still 550 rpm and there is still a vibration in the floor boards, the pedals and the steering wheel when traveling at 30-35 mph when the pedal is pressed hard enough to maintain speed. Vibration goes away when the pedal is released.

The one difference I have noticed is that the torque converter lockup doesn't occur until the speed is higher and until a more constant speed is attained. I've noticed that the torque converter lockup WON'T occur under acceleration. The engagement of the lockup is also more relaxed and takes longer.

I haven't noticed any additional "snappiness" at low speed or from a stop.
