Trade in Value

I am looking for a real world trade in value for a 2011 Nissan Maxima SV w/ 17k miles.

KBB says $27, Nada says $27, Blackbook says $24,500 for a 2010 (not option for 2011)

Thanks!

Condition? Stock? Trade in for what? Dealership is likely to give you more if you're buying a Ferrari than Kia.

If you want a real world trade in value you need to use Galves... Every dealer uses Galves for trade in values...

fyi dearlers pay wholesale for trade ins to then sell them retail thats how they make the money... kbb, etc are no help unless its sold privately...

Thats false... if you go on there you can select private party or trade in... Private party is generally 1-2k more than their trade in value.

I am just trading down, trying to make an even trade, i want an AWD vehicle and I bought this car before knowing I would be in Chicago, and do not want payments. Start my saving for a real car because I cannot stand owing people money.

Take an hour or so out of your day and stop by Carmax, sometimes they will buy it for a decent price, sometimes not.

If this was a reponse to my post, I am well aware that kbb, blackbook, nada, etc... all have trade in options, I NEVER said they didnt. The point to my post was using it its useless as 99.9% of dealers will never give u that amount it states on those sites.

different cars have different mark-up's. you can be shown a gross trade allowance of 26,000 but your cars acv is 24,500. acv-actual cash value and gross trade allowance are different. This means your car's acv is 24,500 but you were shown 26,000 gross trade allowance reflecting a 1,500 discount on the purchase of a new vehicle that was applied to your trade in.
You cant get over allowed on your trade and a discount on a new car, its resale to resale or wholesale to wholesale.
dont worry about your trade in until after you have negotiated the price you want to pay for the car you are buying. once you have gotten the price on the car you are buying to a compfortable number, then tell them to look at your car. then get the number you want for your trade.
I sell cars, never heard of Galves. We use kbb only when people bring it up. but usually they are looking at a private party value, not trade in value.
Typically you wont get kbb value or nada value, because those dont take in to account car accidents... the actual condition of the vehicle is worse than the owner thinks it is. people think there car is worth more than it actually is. cars with mods dont help trade allowances, they hurt them. if you want to buy a car for a good deal, get on true car. com
I want to make a good commission, but at the end of the day it is about selling cars.

Start paying your car off faster, unless you have horrible credit your probably only paying 3000-5000 in interest on the loan, no big deal, Im doing it, I would like to get out of my payments but to sacrifice a lesser car, I will deal.

This will be the last car I buy, from here out Im only buying something if I have the cash.

Trading in a car will always result in the least for your car. It is an "as-is" deal and dealers are going to minimize their risk. I live in MD. Here the car has to be state inspected before it changes hands. WRT here: if I clean/detail the car, get it inspected, and I have paperwork on what I've done to the car then I can argue for a wholesale value on the trade. I have a car they can basically put on the lot today. You also might approach your dealer about buying the car--if they know you and the car and you do the above then you might get decent money.

ya nissans aren't exactly known for holding their value, it's a great deal to get a a35 max in the used car market.

Most cars have no resale, it's usually a buyers market for used cars, never a sellers market, especially newer stuff

Seems the trade-in value of the 2012 Maxima is very good. The 2011 Maxima is getting raves on ownership experience. And the 2008 and 2010 were fine also.

I have never gotten less than Kelly/NADA trade in values for my cars except for my 01' Mazda Protege, which was just a couple hundred under the median trade in value. Often much more while still getting a big discount on my new vehicle. For instance, traded in my wifes paid off 05' Murano that was valued at $9k for for $11k and at the same time, got her loaded $41k 11' grand cherokee for about $35k. Paid tax out of pocket and financed the remaining $24k.

Same deal with my 11' Maxima Sport/Tech. MSRP was $40k, negotiated to $33k and also got about $1000 over bluebook trade in value for my Civic SI.

Sometimes it just means having to look around and find dealers that are not trying to rape you coming and going. My dad was trading in his paid off 2010 Dodge RAM 2500 quad cab 4x4 with cummings to downgrade and cash out the extra to pay some emergency bills, new his truck goes for close to $45000. One Dodge dealer offered him $25k in trade and would not budge (same dealer also would not drop second sticker on car he was interested in so we walked immediately). Went to a different dealer and got $35k in trade, which equaled KBB/NADA median average.

Re-sale

Just for referance: Went to Carmax yesterday just to get an idea of what they would offer to buy my Max.

2011 SV Premium with Technology package. 7,600 miles (bought brand new in June 2011).

The official write up sheet that they quoted me was $23,000.00.

The original sticker price was $40,000.00 I paid $35,000.00 including taxes/fee's/out-the-door about 7 months ago.

Quite a large margin of profit it seems. Furthermore, a high re-sale value does not seem to be present with the Maxima. I was hoping for at least $27,000.00 or so.

Maybe I'm crazy?

The A35 actually does have a pretty good resale value compared to past models. I know my dealer is in desperate need of 1-owner 2009+ Maximas. They paid off my prior lien on my 2010 ($24K left) and got me into a loaded 2011 SV Sport/Tech. I only paid 28K for the 2010, so not bad!

And they would resell it for about $ 29K.

@GM_Traitor My dealer has just sent me a very similar request regarding him being in need of a one owner 2009 maxima. The letter stated they would give $4000 toward a new Nissan and they will waive the last 3 months of my remaining lease to get me into another new Nissan. How did it work with your situation? Do you recommend it? My lease is up in August and I am debating on if I want to jump back into the Maxima or move on to a different make (but im having trouble finding a better buy for the buck!) Thank you for your input

I had the same brand twice in a row and wouldn't do it again. I like to try new things. I love my max but my next car will probably be the Hyundai Azera.

Thanks for your response Car Addict-- I appreciate you turning me on to that new Hyundai; looks real promising! When does that release? Well I guess only time can tell with what I decide on, I like my Max but for a brand new car the minor issues it has had could hold me back from getting back into another one

Supposed to show up in dealers next month. Starts at around 32k and has standard leather and nav. Fully equipped is only about 37k and adds heated and cooled seats for both front passengers, rear and side sunshades, heated rear seats, etc; and you can start the car from your smartphone.

Have you looked at their reliability ratings lately?

What part of NJ are you from? If your having problems with your Maxima, bring it to Keyport Nissan. They are the best. The first few weeks of having my Max, I heard a rattling noise and I didn't know where it came from. They found it was the passenger seat and something was loose. Got it back and test drove it near the dealer. No more noise...

CarMax marks up their cars at LEAST 3-4k if they resell it on the lot. "No Haggle" pricing is another way of saying "we hope all the flash n dash of our showroom and blue polo clad salesman blurs the obvious fact you will pay a lot more here and since there is no negotiation, there is nothing you can do about it"
