It might be some sort of pump for transmission fluid.... so the fluid can be transferred for cool down.... just my thoughts

thanks for the thoughts but i don't think it is a pump as there are no electrical connections, just an in and out tube.

ok, so a trip to the dealer yielded some bad news.. there is no part number from nissan and i would have to replace the whole transmission....

of course there are no junked maximas from 09-12 anywhere near me... the part is only held on by 3 bolts

Try to take it off and fox it yourself? Lmao some glue or something? Weld it.. I mean do w.e u need to do.. Unless the transmissiOn is being changed for free...

it was really stupid but you can see the hole i put in it in the pic... it was really really stupid of me, i feel like an idiot and basically when it comes down to it... i was in a big rush, didn't bother to research what i was doing and didn't bother to think before i acted. lets just say it is the same size as the oil filter and it wouldn't twist off. what do you do with a filter that was put on too tight? yeah, so that is what i did and as soon as i saw the color of the oil that came out i knew what i had done.

i don't have a welder and don't really know anybody that i would trust to weld it.

i picked up some JB weld and patched it up... my only fear is that the trans fluid will react with the JB weld. it will either leak over time or contaminate the fluid and hurt the transmission.

is the dealer the only place i can pick up the cvt trans fluid? i didn't see any at my local autozone...

Dude, I don't even know what to tell you man. That really sucks. You def should be able to find someone junking their car or parting it out. There have been a few posts in the marketplace with people parting out. Just keep an eye and keep searching. No way you should have to buy a brand new tranny just for that piece. Dealership may have been trying to get one over on you...

but jb weld should do the trick til you can find a replacement. Once its dry, it should not react with anything.

Edit: why the fck would you have to replace the wholle tranny becausbecause of that part? Sounds like the dealer wants to bend you over the table.

HAHAHAHA

New transmission eh?

Go back to the dealer and tell them to go sodomize themselves with a rusty piece of rebar for telling you u needed a new tranny

OP, What made you want to attempt to remove that piece anyway? And I agree with the above statement to go back to the dealer. I would go see them with new part in hand, give them the old one and tell them to shove that and their new transmission. Glad you were not gullible enough to fall for their scam.

So - essentially, this is the transmission filter for our cars? I have replaced transmission fluid three times now - but no filter. Even the factory service manual doesn't mention anything about the filter replacement.

Guess I will look into this.
