Black paint cracking off muffler

Was just looking at my muffler and noticed the black paint or coating is cracking off at the bottom... Does anyone have this issue? Is there a fix? Will this cause future problems? It's in a few spots but want to stop the spreading...thx!

My 2010 doesn't have this problem (stock muff's not painted black), so not sure. Do you have a Stillen aftermarket ABE or CBE or other non-stock exhaust?

Strange to say the least. Haven't seen this as a problem mentioned on this forum (that I recall). If your vehicle is still under warranty take it in to your dealer. Do they apply a lot of road salt up there during the winters?

Could it be an undercoating that might have been applied...hmm maybe I'll post a pic tomorrow if the weather is good..
We had an ok winter this year but ya they use road salt an now special liquid form to spray on the roads...

Wow, I don't even want to think someone at a dealership applied undercoating to an exhaust system. But then again some places will do anything to charge extra $$. Unless it's a corrosion problem it shouldn't be a major issue.
Good luck.

High Temp paint will definitely do the trick in fixing this. If you want to save a few bucks, I have a can if your in the NY area. Worked great on my first car!

I always black out my stock mufflers, done on every car I thing I've owned. Never had it come off, and I didn't even go with high temp paint. Of course, I'd recommend something like an engine paint, but any semigloss black will do...

Not the cracking, but I was tired of the blackness on the tips, so I Semi-glossed them black. You need high temp paint (which is engine paint, brake paint, etc)

Good idea.. So high temp spray paint used for calipers should work then?
Or do you brush it on?

Pics?

What i've done with cars i've owned in the past (including my current Max) is take a wire brush to the cracking paint to clean it up, and then spray it with black ceramic header paint. Looks good and holds up well.

My 2000 Max used to have the factory tip that wrapped around both tips. I didn't like that look so I removed it and sprayed the factory muffler. Here's a pic of what it looks like after I painted it. I took the picture a few days after I painted it, and it rained the day before I took the pic so there's some dirt splashes on it, but you get the idea of how it looks...
