Climate control drives me nuts
So this is like my 6th car in a row with automatic climate control, and the first one that has ever aggravated me. It seems that as long as it is hot in any way in the car, the climate control will just turn itself on full blast out of the top vents. This irritates my gf, who proceeds to **** around with every button, vent, and dial she can until the air stops blowing at her, which of course aggravates me that she is messing with everything. In fact, this is the first car ive had where the automatic setting actually throws air out full blast, i think. i may be comparing unfairly to the RS6, which didnt even have an off button for the climate control, and you really never realized it was on, it would just do its thing and cool off the car. its not like its a big deal, but i just find it odd. maybe, though, i dont care, and its just my gf thats annoying me.

yeah i just leave it in auto, or at least i try to, so when i turn the car back on it goes back to auto again, but it could be because i have the temp set so low. I usually keep it around 69-71, so maybe the only way the system knows to get the car down to that temperature is to blast cold air out until the car hits that temperature. pointing them down like car addict said might be the best bet.

bingo....the system is designed to get the car cooled or heated to the set temp as fast as it can.....for example...it is 81 here now..if i go set my auto to 68 when i start my car it will belt out full blast and gradually slow the fan down when it reaches that temp....on the contrary the heater may not start right away if it is going to pump out cold air in the winter....my 4th gen was the somewhat the same way....that y in the summer i roll the windows down before i get to the car and mess with the AC as i am driving unless its ungodly hot out and i need the AC

LOL, if she was a "new" girlfriend, it would not be pissing you off. You would be smiling as she touches all over your Maxima.
But seriously, that is how it should function since you set in on auto. Mine does the same in my 6thgen, but I don't leave it on auto anymore.
Stop getting mad at your girl and just change the setting.
Tell her the only thing she's allowed to touch is the stove, refrigerator, and vaccum...
The only problem that I have with the climate control is when it switches from circulate to intake ... Most of the places I drive its nasty outside and I don't want the odors coming inside.

My maxima is not bad at all. On a hot day it will blast away then the fan speed will decrease, but it takes awhile to cool down the big car.
In my Rogue it's even worse. A full 2 hr trip and all it did was blast the whole time, even though it was set to 72ish (non-digital).
Oh, and my wife refuses to use the AUTO just because it "blasts" her. Ha.

i guess it was just me being picky and comparing unfairly to other cars. once i get a remote start, hopefully before it gets insanely hot down here, it will be a non-issue.
on a positive note though, i LOVE that we dont have a "accept" screen on our navi like every other OEM one i have ever seen/used. THAT is pretty awesome.

Do you open the vent to let "fresh air" in or close it?
I do leave mine on auto pretty much forever except when starting the car. In most cases, when starting, I would open the vents to get the hot air out of the car and then once the auto-climate reaches the desired temp and lowers the fan, that's when i shut the vent to circulate the air.
I have noticed that the fan is stronger when the vents are closed vs when outside air is coming in.

Sounds like you and your girl just need to suck it up and deal with it or don't use AUTO. In a perfect world it will work the way you want it to....but it's not.
If you have a true understanding how the AUTO function works we wouldn't be here talking about it. I work for Cadillac and every Caddy, and every other high dollar vehicle works exactly the same.
FYI I"m in AZ and I have remote start. If your car is in the direct sun before you remote start it with the auto on, even after 10 minutes of it running it will still be on full blast. The dash, roof, and everything else in the car will be hot and ur car won't cool those components off fast enough. When I'm in my underground parking garage at my condo and i remote start it, it's perfect, but the car isn't warm at all on the inside.
