Talking FINALLY! Put my amp in the Max

I will in the car electronics industry so I'm always working on cars so you can imagine someone in that industry can get laxy when wanting to work on their own vehicle.

But with that said I finally installed my amp to the factory set-up to power my JL 10 W3v3 in a custom box that I made. I plan on making and finishing the box for the other side next after I get back from my weekend vacation.

My first idea was to put the amp somewhere under the rear deck but there was not enough room to mount the amp without removing the factory subs. I'm not yet ready to remove the subs just yet because if I ever have to remove the aftermarket subs for any reason, I still want to use the factory woofers. So I put the amp on the back of the backing plate that's behind the backseat that doesn't have the 60/40 split seat. If I ever change out the factory door speakers I will make an amp rack and remove the bose amp which will allow enough room for a sub amp and a 4 channel.

As far as sound, I think it's a great addition for bass that you can feel and not just hear. The trunk seems pretty solid with almost no rattles even with the rear window shade. I think when I add the 2nd sub the system will sound awesome. Guess we will find out next week

Obviously the install was straight forward for me but here is a couple shots I took with my cell phone.

Clean install. I have a ported 12" with 1,000 watt amp and after dynomatting the rear deck and trunk lid I still had to remove the sunshade. It's a whole lotta bass.

I just can't do ported. Too big of a box, I feel the bass the sloppy and not tight, and seems like it mostly sounds best with rap. I listen to everything and lately more dubstep so I have always gone with 10's and sealed enclosures for the faster response to constant frequency changes. But i def like how solid the trunk is stock. I probably won't do dynamat for a while. Maybe pull the rear deck speaker for more air travel into the cab if anything.

I can't wait to get the other side done. Got that itch. My dude at work keeps wanting me to get crazy and do something in the spare tire well but I like my spare and I like my trunk space!

Just added the sub and amp. No need to replace everything just yet. I don't think the Bose system sounds that bad. I mean it's a factory system, but yet it really just needed a little more bass to compliment the mids and highs. Eventually I will be replacing all the door speakers and add a 2nd amp but the car is too new and fully loaded to start getting into any big projects right now IMO. And I'm forever changing ideas so knowing me I will be redoing the boxes in a few weeks/months and doing paintwork or a false floor. Just wanted to keep it all clean for now and maximize my trunk space with reduced weight with an all fiberglass box.

Very clean install. Did you run the bass control to the front like you were talking about?

I just have the phone cable ran since I didn't order the control **** for this amp before I installed. I'm running an Alpine M12 1200w amp since I got it for free and decided to use this instead of going with a JL amp like I wanted. But the **** is on order so I will post a pic of it when it comes in. Probably next week since I'm out of town this weekend. Then I will make the other side next week as well if I don't get a chance to start it this week before Friday.

I think it sounds great for one 10" sub. Can't wait to get the second one in there. I have never had JL in any of my vehicles and I must say that sub sounds awesome. Has a good about of excursion and requires a little amount of space which allowed me to save even more space when making the box. Always good to have JL as an account at the dealership I work at!

I had a thread saying I'd make a few boxes for those that were interested. The thread died but still have a couple people interested. But overall what I've gotten from it is that people want things cheap and I'm not going to make this box cheap people. ;-)

I don't even have the box mounted down in any way. It was made and in my trunk for about 2 months and hasnt left its spot!

Other side finished. Just have to wrap it in carpet tomorrow. Overall pretty happy with the way they turned. Boxes maybe weigh 5-7 lbs each and are very solid and sealed. I will post pics of the finished product later this week with the addition of carpet and some paint. Haven't decided if I'm going to keep both sides on just go with one and make an amp display on the opposite side. My possibilities are endless at this point. Just looking for a clean set-up so gonna try new things.
