Best Extended Warranty Deal On The Market!
Best Extended Warranty Deal On The Market!
Just purchased my 2012 SV w/ Prem Pkg and I knew the finance guy was going to try and sell me on the warranty, as they always do.
For the 5yr 100k Security Plus (comprehensive), he wanted $1700. He about **** his pants when I told him that I just purchased my warranty while waiting in the customer lounger for an hour to get the paperwork ready.
I used to be a Financial Advisor with USAA (the financial services firm that works heavily with military personnel), while working there they had introduced Extended Vehicle Protection Plans back in 2010.
Contrary to most people's understanding, you do not need to have any military affiliation to join USAA, however, certain products, such as car insurance and homeowners insurance, as well as some of their lending products, are not available to members without some sort of military affiliation.
This is the 3rd car that I've bought the EVPP plan through USAA. The plans can be used at any dealership or repair facility, and also include the usual roadside service provisions, etc.
For the '12 Maxima SV I purchased a 5yr/100k comprehensive plan with $0 deductible. The plan is fully transferable if I sell my vehicle, or I could also cancel it and receive a pro-rata refund.
I paid $639.....you can't beat this price anywhere, and USAA is a very highly rated company. They do use Assurant Solutions to underwrite this product. Also, you can buy this plan right from their website, no need to haggle with anyone.
In contrast, I also bought the extended warranty from them on my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited for $832. On the Jeep, the dealers lowest price after a ton of haggling was $1400, but only to 75k miles, while the USAA plan was all the way out to 100k and had a $0 deductible vs. the dealers $100 deductible.
I was also looking at buying a 2010 or 2011 used Maxima before opting for the 2012, the pricing was similar for those vehicles for the EVPP.
I hope some of you can find this useful. And no, I don't work for USAA anymore, but I sure will use their products when I can, as they are hard to beat and no one gets a commission company wide....kind of the reason I left, no reward for high production!

You say USSA is not only for military? How would I benefit by joining? Sorry to thread jack but I'm looking to get away from my corporate bank and join something more.
You think I can apply this warranty to my 09 with 34k on it?

The extended warranty is just one benefit that anyone could get. They also have decent banking programs, and were actually the creator of mobile deposits (take picture of a check on your phone to deposit in your account). They also have mutual funds, IRAs, etc. The most lucrative benefits are the auto and home insurance in my opinion, which I was eligible for when working there. Since I'm no longer working for them I no longer get that perk.
So to truly answer your question, unless you have a military affiliation, the benefits aren't that great for most people. But I would think a screaming deal on an extended warranty from a very reputable company would be a big enough benefit to many members here....even if they can't get auto insurance from USAA.
You should have no problem adding the coverage to your '09, but it might be a tad more expensive. Like any extended warranty, you definitely want to purchase before your bumper to bumper expires.

I joined USAA to get a quote on extended warranty. They quoted me ~1200 for 5 year 100k on my 2010 maxima SV with 33k miles. Almost double what NMMaximaDriver got. They said it's based on mileage! just a heads up for you all. They did confirm that if my car was new it would have been $639.

You are right, pricing is based on mileage at issue, at 33k you are at the tail end of your bumper to bumper. The used '10 and 11' Maximas I was looking at had between 13k and 26k for mileage. The pricing was still around $700/$800 at these mileage points.
There could very well be a big increase at the 30k mark. Even at $1200 it's still a pretty good deal considering the 5 yrs starts at warranty purchase date, not in-service date.

I'm curious how it actually works if you need a repair. Do you go to a dealer or Indy and show a card, and then they deal with it? Or do you pay the repair bill and submit it to this company for reimbursement later?
I always have my doubts about aftermarket warranties. Legions of stories about things being denied coverage with no recourse.

Whether it is a 3rd party warranty or not, almost every warranty contract is backed or reinsured by a 3rd party.
Being that I travel all over a 5 state area, I wouldn't want a plan that requires me to only use a dealer for repairs. Not a lot of Nissan dealers outside of major metropolitan areas!
when I bought mine last december, i paid $1,100 for a 84 month (7 year)/100,000 miles, and had a choice for ~$200 more to go all the way out to 125k....this is a $0 deductible, and i've already had over $1,100 worth of work done so it's paid itself, and anything more they are basically doing for free.
