LED Nissan Emblem

Firstly, props go to a Titealty from the Altima threads of another forum. You can see the original instructions here.

So I was given a set of LED strips (the type you'd usually find in the auto section of a department store) and didn't really know what to do with them. I didn't really want "Audi lights" but this was an option. Then I thought about cutting the letters out of the front Nissan emblem and did some research. Of course I wasn't the first to have the idea, but hey, great minds think alike?

Anyway, pretty much followed Titealty's instructions. My hand is not as steady as his apparently (as the cuts are not as clean as his) and I'm not very well skilled in epoxy work (I may drill out the epoxy later and redo). For now, I'm happy with the results. It was an easy enough mod I could do without spending too much. I'll be swapping out bulbs for LEDs soon though. Realized today my fog lights run ridiculously hot. Pics below. Enjoy!

I initially wanted a Gold & Silver look. The gold was too dark. This emblem was plastidipped, painted over, and clear coated. The paint came off with some effort.

Success! They're wired to my fogs.

Other notes: If you do this mod, take your time. I tend to get impatient with projects and need a reminder to do just this, hence why I'm only maybe 80% happy with the job. I may buy another emblem just to give it another go and make it cleaner looking.

Notable mod very well thought of. Legality on the east coast?

Really couldn't tell you, man. I'll note that the LEDs don't shine too well through epoxy and therefore won't emit much light. It's more of an accent if anything. Shouldn't be a problem with law enforcement (I'd just stick with white lights to be on the safe side - definitely no blue/red/green LEDs).

Another thing to note - it's mounted with 3m tape. The original tabs on the left and right (the main tabs) had to be cut.

And Ghotz, no kidding! I had to give my hand some rest after each letter and I still managed to botch up a few spots. Oh well. Thanks guys!

That looks good, man that would work on a 5.5 to 7.5 gen with those huge Nissan hamburgers!

Correct me if I'm wrong..
You cut out the Nissan lettering, filled them with epoxy and then put the led strip behind it?

Yup. Just as Titealty did, I put a strip of tint behind it, then filled the letters with epoxy. The LED strip is on the top inner side.

Actually, it's a bit more complicated but not really. My fogs are tapped into the parking lights for power. The fogs are also rigged to a switch (which I will eventually wire into the car). The LEDs are actually tapped into this switch (positive into the hot wire, negative to ground). I'm not sure I can produce great pics of it but it's simple enough to do.

And I know what you mean about doing anything to a new car =/ especially if you're new to modding (like me).

So the burger on the back (for those who still have it) could you do it with red LED's either wired into your lights or make it a forth brake light? I'm thinking because it's a flush mount to the trunk surface it may not fit right. Plus you would need to drill for the wires.
I think I may have just answered my own question, guess I'm just throwin it out there....?

Haha, well, I've been dreaming of doing this too but it might be simpler to buy one of these babies and replace the rear emblem. See the video.

You're right about drilling too. It's always a bit scary to do that...

I googled this a few days back. I wouldn't pay that price but you can see how it's done by the pics.

So yeah, clear LED assembly cut to the shape of the Nissan emblem. I don't think I'll be doing this mod, again because you'll be cutting into the body. Sure, just a tiny hole. But I'll pass for now.

keep in mind you'd have to drill a hole for the wiring so if you ever took it off you'd have a nasty hole on your trunk. i peeped this a while back but never wanted to drill a hole in my trunk
