2003 Maxima vs 2010 Maxima
ONE MOAR TINGGG (insert pops-like pop culture image)
-The 03 Maxima was not made in the same "Class" any newer maxima. The Maxima before 2004 competed with the other non-luxury flagship sedans..... Camry, Accord, Taurus, etc..... The Maxima back then made sacrifices such as.... Manual Driver seat, cloth interior, tape players, things paupers would succumb to, and the Maxima still shined for decades, even with it's lack of a 4 cyl option (when you make a badass motor.... you make a badass motor nomsayin? Nissan re-used the ch1t out of only 3-4 engines in ALL of their vehicles during a generation, that was their cost cutting measure... Think I'm lyin? Look @ Toyota....
)Where things had to changed was when the sales fell of the vehicle because the American climate in Sedans shifted more towards bigger sedans that have a low price tag.... So the Altima was nissan's perfect fit because it was already making cost cutting measures for the car, why not make it bigger to compete with the Accord and Camry which were already in the lame family sedan market? Look around the same time ford started making the Fusion and the demise of the Taurus... See where I'm getting with this by car "Class"?

What I call a "Entry Level Premium Sedan" - I dunno what the official category is.... But it's still a step down from "Luxury Sedans" So this wouldn't be fair to put in a BMW 5, Chrysler 300, Caddy CTS, G37 (Which IMO is just out-classed by everything else, it's in a wierd category people usually consider G37 or BMW 3 not the 5), etc. in this bunch:
TL
Maxima
Taurus
Avalon
Azera
Impala
Charger
CC
MKZ (Not so sure on this one).
LOTH, while nicely written and formatted, I didn't read your cool story, I immediately recognized that it was not the correct response. Pops (Rochester) + Esco, hit the nail on the head on cars in the Maximas "Class." Your response is merely opinionated and can be argued until the end of time, while mine is something a bit more fact based and can be argued for a short period of time.

You are insisting on 'class', while I specifically said 'TRULY EXACT COMPETITOR.' Those are very different categories.
You are correct that these vehicles are in the same class, and I never said they weren't. All I said was that these vehicles were, for various reasons, not the Maxima's TRULY EXACT COMPETITORS. I might consider the TL or the G37 as close to being exact competitors for the Maxima, but you never mentioned either of these in your original rebuttal.
We are both saying things that are correct, but talking about different ways of categorizing.

More accurately, "competitor" is a misused term in this context. People are competitors, not cars.

And lastly, the best head-2-head comparison for the 7th Gen Maxima is the brand new 2013 Altima (again). Ditto on the (fraternal) Korean turbo-twins: Optima and Sonata.

Mods:
Cold air intake
UD pulley
Headers
QTP Cutout (i open @ 5200-5400rpms)
QTP Mufflers
Self Tuned with Uprev Tuner kit
I get better power blocks with a 14.6-.9 A/F Ratio then i did with a recommended 14.2 A/F Ratio which every tuner would set it to.
but im still learning, Kenny from theshopct is also giving me 2nd opinions for the maps im setting on my car.
So yeah i kinda know a lot about this car and what its capable of doing.
this is also considering a supercharged VQ30 5th gen can NOT beat me in a race. on the track of course
BTW VQ30 w/ vortech v2 SC makes 290-300+whp
so how is a 5.5gen with basic mods beating you again?
so back to the race.
I think the OP left his car in D mode considering he said the 5th gen starting pulling @ 80mph a untuned 7th gen in D mode takes a deep breath @ exactly 80mph
Try racing him in manual mode which is best for 40rolls
DS mode is best for digg runs till top speed limit
D mode is best for 1/4 mile runs.
Thank you for your time.

Maxima use to be alone alone, now so much overlapping
That's the current model Kia Optima. Been out for 2 years now. I've driven the 2.0T, and by my standards I'd rate the car "good enough", particularly because of the cost-2-value on it.
Mechanics aside, the design sure is a head-turner.

hey you have a 5.5 gen right? and your in NY? maybe we could meet up
I sold it in February after almost 10 years. Hit up merovi here on the Org... he's also in NY and the new owner of the car. However, Yonkers and Rochester are quite a bit apart from one another, like a 7 hour drive.
These days I drive a 2011 G37S Sedan 6MT.

But then again, if your Uprev kit solves the top-end issue that would be a different story.
