How to connect Galaxy S3 (MicroUSB) to 2009 Maxima

So I'm in a quandary. My 09 Max w/ Tech has the Ipod cable in the center console (not usb, but weird pin connector). Do I have any options to connect my new android phone which only has a microusb connection. I really don't want to use the headphone jack to the a/v inputs as I know I won't be able to control via the headunit.

Any ideas?

Android doesn't work with the Max via USB unless its Bluetooth streaming.

Android does work with the usb, you just have to mess around with it. I have a 2011 premium with no tech packaged and my EVO 4G works via usb.

09 Tech has no USB nor does it have BT streaming. Am I missing something?

That is for the older unit. Grab the new one off of BlackBerry's website... $49.99 and has NFC built-in

On an 09, the ONLY native option you have is the jack. Sorry.

What messing around do you have to do to get it to work?

No messing around on the 2011 as long as your android device supports MTP. I think it's MTP mode.

*NOT all devices do, rooted devices usually have MTP mode turned off, etc.

Pretty sure the s3 has mtp mode. might have to have a certain file structure though.

I have the S3 and it doesn't recognized my Phone via USB. It's automatically set for MTP when usb is plugged in.

Hmm, maybe it's the other mode from MTP? I can't remember, I've never actually used it like that. I root mine and turn off the "slow" modes and set it back to regular USB mount drive instead. Someone, quick, go buy me a SIII and a 2011 Max and I promise I'll do all the testing just for you!

I just got this phone last week... love this phone.. someone should know some tricks with this on the Max

I have one serious question to yall Galaxy SIII users... do you all have a problem connecting the Bluetooth to your Max?? everytime i connect my bluetooth to my max... it automatically disconnects my bluetooth 2 times... the third time i try connecting it... it works... i have to do this every single time i get into my car n it gets annoying.. is there a solution to this problem??

I have a 2011 Premium with nav & tech n everything

I have the phone on my car and it works 90% of the time. here's what I did.

-Pair the phone for "handsfree" first and download ur contacts.
-Once paired, unpair and delete the car from your phone.
-On your phone change the name of your phone to something different.
-Now pair the phone for audio and that should be it.

Mikky you got my number, any issues or if you think I skipped a step. hit me up

Couple questions....

Once you change the name of the car on the phone, do you re-pair the phone to the car?

What do you exactly mean by pair the phone for audio? Isn't that the same as pairing the phone to the car?

You ask alot of questions..... haha

Yes, you re-pair the phone to the car. The car will show your phones model number in the phone priority selection (1-5). DO NOT DELETE IT! Just select the next slot when repairing

My max with nav asks if I'm pairing a device for "handfree" or for an "audio device" (mp3 player, tablet and such)

Wait for mirrorlink, when your entire phone can be controlled by your dash screen.....the way it should be.

I tried this... took me awhile to get it right and now it works.. at times it disconnects and reconnects at the beginning but it all does it by itself and after a minute it works.. better than doing it manually like i did before... thank you.. this helped me

Yea, it took me even longer especially since I had no basis to go on. Just sat in my car at work and played with it. Sometimes it doesn't always disconnect, but it takes a little longer to start the bluetooth streaming. Nothing to complain about for me. It's ever changing technology!

You guys are doing this with the head unit with navigation. I think was mainly asked by someone that did not have navigation.

Are you saying this should work as well for those?

How do you change the device name? I don't recall it asking what I want to connect the phone for, I have a 2010 with nav.

I also just got the s3 and can't get usb audio to work. It says check connected device. I've fiddled with the sub settings and still can't get it to work.

You're changing the name on the phone. when you're in the bluetooth settings hit the menu button and click change device name

so if there's no way of skipping or ff tracks using the dash or steering controls, is there a tiny remote that will work that you can install on the steering wheel (something like kingston's discontinued liquid aux)?

I think I may have solved this issue. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S (The very first one) and I just bought a 2011 Nissan Maxima (no nav package no Bluetooth streaming) I was struggling to make the USB recognize my phone but I finally got it working by doing the following:
1). Download the Multi Mount SD app (Paid version is 99 cents) and root is not needed
2). Go to the App and enable the following: auto un/mount SD card, check if USB cable is plugged in, MTP fix.
3). Go into the phone USB settings and set it to always ask on connection
4). plug USB cord into your phone and when asked choose mass storage
5). Your galaxy should now be recognized but if not play with the app and cable until it works. (try the free app before you buy it)

Here is a possibility but It might be a waste of time...
Samsung phone>>>> usb to hdmi video output cable>>>> hdmi to rca converter >>> monitor rca input. You will need to power the two converters which could be done with a dual usb travel charger.
Aux in or bluetooth stream for audio
Or some samsung phones have an rca video out cable

I have the S model, so I don't know if this would work with the oem monitor. I was planing on doing this with an aftermarket unit. But it might be cleaner to go with mirrorlink or an app radio instead. It is impossible to get rid of the amber screen and keep the factory look

Has anyone tried to connect a raspberry pi (35 $ mini computer)... Instead of the converters... That was another "dream" project that I had, but I gave up on it. Maybe you guys find a way to make it work...
