Smile 2012 SV Power Outlets

I picked up my 4th new Maxima (1987, 1996, 2007, 2012) a week and a half ago and absolutely love this thing. I am still going through the owners manual and learning all of the new features on this car. The power outlets have me confused and I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this. The manual says the power outlet in the small compartment in the center console is controlled by the ignition and the outlet in the large console compartment runs directly off of the battery. Simple enough, but on my new 2012 SV, both outlets appear to be controlled by the ignition switch and turn off when the car is off. I tested this with a couple of devices in both outlets and they all quit charging with the ignition switch turned off.

Anyone else run into this and is there a way to change it?

I'll keep reading, but I haven't seen any settings for it anywhere.

I have an '11 with the premium pkg. I read about that also, and tested mine and it was exactly as described. One shut off when I killed the engine, but the other remained on.

Might be mis-wired. If both 12v outlets have power when the car's on, one of them (can't remember which) should still be working with the car off.

I'm sure it'd be a quick and easy warranty fix. They might've changed the configuration for the '12's, but I haven't heard that and I highly doubt they did.

Thanks for the reply, I am going to try to get to the dealer on Wednesday or Thursday and I will have them check it out. Will post what they do to fix it.

Yeah my one closest to the gear shifter only powers when the car is on. The one in the center console thing powers whenever something is plugged into it.

Check ur fuse box. Some newer cars have a fuse that can be in two different positions to either work only on ignition or on constant. BMW and Mercedes have this as well as some Cadillacs. Maybe they gave u that option for 2012 models.

'12 here, I leave my radar plugged into the arm rest outlet (further back one) and it powers on and off with the car. Maybe it was changed for ours? I like it better that way because it has a gap for the wire to come out whereas the center console outlet would need to have the cover open at all times

Did you find anything out from the dealer//called my dealer and he said that they both run off the ignition.

It's a very easy install...just pop the overhead light/sunroof console down and splice into the wires there. I can check the wire color I connected to if you like.
