Stock Maxima vs Modded Maxima
Stock Maxima vs Modded Maxima
My friend and I had a couple of races yesterday and I was not happy with the result's.
My 2010 Maxima- Stillen Intake, Racingline Y Pipe and deleted resonator.
Friend's 2011 Maxima- Bone Stock.
We had a roll start at 40Mph, I had a good jump start but after 90 he started catching me and pulled half of body one me.
Then we went on Ds mode from start same thing he pulled 1 body on me. Tried D Mode he pulled half of body on me and then we tried Manual well he isn't good at it so I took him by 4 cars from the dig lol.
My question is how the hell is he beating me?! This is weird he's car is stock and weights more because he has the Premium I have the Sport...
Guy's help me out on this one please, it's like I spended my money for nothing!

On a straightline with our cars it doesn't!!! We have Automatic CVT tranny's. Like I said I get him from start on roll or from the dead stop but after 60 he starts catching me both floring it. If the car was manual then it would depend on the driver. Funny thing is I take every other Maxima I raced I won but this one I don't is the Mobil gas that I use or Mobil Synthetic Oil is no good? Maybe I should never deleted the resonator?!
Makc1KnYC I feel you. I know what you are talking about. My friend Bryan Suavo has a 2009 Nissan Maxima S with all the mods that you can find out there ( Exhaust, Y-pipe,Intake, Block off Plates, Racingline Strut Bar, Stillen Sway Bar,Coilovers, Stillen Pulley, The thick cables for the ground I forgot the name, this is just to name some. He's got most of what you will find out there. Mine is a 2012 Nissan Maxima S bone stock and we raced a coupled of times and he had a good jump start but after 80 mph I started passing him. This is something inexplicable for me. He spent $ 5,000.00 on his car and I can still beat him for half a car I don't get this. Also, I'm 6'1 strong guy and weight 30 pounds more than him if that factor will affect. Please I would like to know your thoughts guys. Otherwise, I'm not going to spend a cent on my car.
Do you really need to have your car tune to get the gains from all those mods ? I mean, come on men, Racingline its calling for a 10 HP gain on the y-pipe and where is it going ? The intake its a 15 HP gain whatever something like that. Where is it going ?
To tell you the true I really don't know much about cars I'm staring to understand a little bit now. But my friend should be taking me by at least 3-4 cars when he spent 5,000.00 already on his car.

Bolt on performance mods trying to be a 1 and 3 year newer car (respectively), and you're surprised when the outcome is that the newer car wins?!? Each year may have the same engine and HP as a previous year, but minor changes in hardware, even programming can be the difference in why the transmission responds differently, and that torque is more efficient.
The cars with the mods, was the car tuned with those mods, or was it just bolt on and see what happens? Also need to factor in the mileage on the cars, and were they easy miles or beat up regularly?
The only way to compare these mods, you'd have to have a bone stock exact same year, and very close mileage...then there would be room for surprise if bone stock won.

I love this car but its going away in 7 months and I'm getting my E92 M3 I'm done! I need a real car with real power and most of all on stick!
Put it this way my boys stock 2002 6Speed Maxima with 255HP ripped me a new a****ole after 80Mph beat me by 3 cars are u serious!

all these mods, in my opinion, do not add anything significant...on contrary when i had my stillen intake vs stock, i felt that the car was much slower.
i mean there is a reason why this car was designed with these components...its called a balance of in ( intake) vs out ( exhaust)...among other things..
so unless you have the pro-shop balance and recalibrate all that are new ( mods) then you are just throwing your car's balance off...hence minimizing the performance.
just my experience....
speaking of who beat who...from the dead stop - held up with Altima R, upto 70 mph...maybe maxing out at 4K rpms with eac shift...and then i took off...or maybe he slowed down...

Stillen claim is possibly false. Can't see getting that much out of that intake setup on 7th gen Max.
But don't forget mods alter the powerband at different rpms. For example lets say ypipe is giving you 10hp, but it may be at 3800-4800 rpm.
CVT tranny after initial sweep is pegged at 6200+ if racing were its likely that ypipe has no gains. So your hp is no greater at redline vs the stock.
So your mod benefits could be beneficial in part throttle around town driving but not as much for racing.

There you go guy's somebody to have my back for once on this forum! I'm not lying and if you think I'm a bad driver lol I live in Brooklyn PM anytime Ill give you my number well meet up anytime and race. In all honesty I am very dissapointed with the intake from stillen the racingline y pipe I got no gains! I will take my brothers stock Maxima today and see what happens I bet his car will take me! Unless I'm a bad driver.... Lol

I'm leaning towards this...even the new Altima CVT has been reported as being "much more responsive" than the Maxima CVT.
Whats the mileage on the vehicles? Have you done all the regular maintenance including drain/fill CVT fluid at 60k? How do you "race"? Just push the skinny pedal to the floor and grip the wheel tight? If you're losing to a stock 02 Max then there may be something wrong with your car or how you're driving, the 7th gen Max is the fastest stock for stock Maxima according to time slips.

Good luck with that M3 dude. Both my brothers 335i here in NY and my buddies M5 down in South Carolina have been back to the dealership about 7 times combined in the last three years for problems with the cars computers.
Windows rolling down on their own, engine turning off on the highway all kinds of awesome stuff going on with those cars. Might want to check out some BMW forums beforehand and find out what you may be getting yourself into. Im sure there are people having the same problems as my brother and friend are having.

The Y-Pipe, I have read mixed reviews on them and your deleted resonators don't add power they make the exhaust louder.
The only real way to know 2010 to 2011 Max would to be, timed runs in each car, if you drive your car hard, don't expect it to be as fast/quick as a nicely broken in well taken care of Maxima
well i have a takeda intake installed on my '12 Maxima and I raced couple of times against a 2008 Nissan z350 manual. Every time i pulled ahead after about 40mph and kept on pulling and would eventually win by about a body to a one and a half body's length by the time quarter mile hit. From what i heard the tranny on the '11/'12 maximas has been updated to do a better job at shifting but still makes no sense to me lol.
You sure about that? Maybe theyre just too proud to tell you the problems that theyre having with their "ultimate driving machines".
2 cars 7 dealer visits.
My buddies engine turning off on the highway in SC sure does seem like something that would concern me.
Or your windows rolling down in your driveway over night.
The fasten seat belt chime going off for the entirety of your ride even though driver and passenger are buckled in.
Radio wont stay on.

Reset your cars before you go out to have fun in them. The cars system will learn your driving habits and adjust. Also after awhile the system will adjust to run as close oem as possible. So yours mods become sort of useless, or just get a tune.
ultimately if you want to feel real power gains you'll need to get the car tuned to take full advantage of the parts. as a few have mentioned the ECU of the car tries to retard the timing so the car behaves like stock. this is why we're classified as "tuners", because most of our gains are from reprogramming the car after modifying it

as a reminder:
If anyone discusses ROAD RACING you will be getting a temp ban so you can take the time and REVIEW the rules of this forum to which you agreed to when you signed on.
You can discuss racing AT THE TRACK, you can show your time slips, whatever. But the minute you mention that you are an idiot and doing it on public highways and flaunting the laws of the state, country and flaunting the rules of MAXIMA.ORG, you will be getting a vacation.

Thing is that the 09+ falls flat on its face after 80 due to the CVT, where as other 3.5 Maximas 02-06 either auto or manual continue to pull strong. So what Makc is saying is very believable at those speeds, the CVT just isn't geared for high speed running but economy for the most part.

on an unrelated note after i get hfc's and uprev tuned im gonna hit the track early fall when it cools down to see what we can do fully modded and tuned. this way we can see what bolt-ons should be doing for you when you don't have the ECU handicapping your ****
What about a full exhaust system to go along with your cold air intake, don't forget your throttle body spacer... Air is coming in fast, it has to go out fast too otherwise it may not give you the performance your looking for... Also any thoughts on the bull dog programing... It says it give you 20+ Hp... Anyone actually get your Hp to the wheels checked after making mods?
Well after 35 Posts, that might have been one of the best forum posts I have seen in awhile.
As KMoney stated (The Original King, haha) - It is all about the Driver. Think about it these factors:
1) The Year of the Car
2) How Well the Car is Kept
3) The Driver (Duh)
4) Who Hits That Accelerator Button Quicker -You would be surprised the magic it holds LOL
5)The Condition of the Tires
6) The Road (On Track Only Obviously, Street Racing is highly dangerous and should be kept only on track with proper gear)
7) The Installation of Modifications
Listen, we can argue for days and days about this topic, that's why I love it. Everyone has different Factors and Different Experiences. Personally I have Beatem 5 Series BMWs from a 0-60 and from a 40 Roll (On the Track). Beat him both times. I have taken Other newer Maxima's (On the Track) Beaten them. So, don't give up hope Obi Won Kanobi, May the Force Be With You and Your Maxima.
Final Note:
Disconnecting your Battery Helps and going to a Professional Tune Shop is definitely a +++++
