Kn drop in filter?

I miss my intake and exhaust rumble from my last car (accord v6) and still getting used to the lack of sound and not feeling running through the gears I was thinking an intake might ease the process. Cars on lease so I was thinking a kn drop in as opposed to a full on intake, does any one have any experience or know how the drop in filters sound?

The K&N is an excellent free flowing replacement over the stock filter.
It will not alter or increase the sound of the car but IMOP it does help with the intake air flow. I added the K&N along with a Y-pipe and noticed a minor sound bite difference.
Since you are leasing, just drop the K&N in and don't worry about sound.
Believe me, you will have no problem silently smoking the V6 Accords/Camry's.

I have a K&N panel filter, but only temporarily. I didn't notice a change in the sound. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear. I can definitely hear the car when I really step on it, but I don't think it's any different than when I was using the stock paper filter. I do plan on buying an intake eventually, but I'll make a few other mods first and see how the car feels. Waiting for my intake manifold spacers currently. Heard that it'll add a little whistle and have a pretty decent feel too. I'm excited to report back how it turns out.

Thanks for the input, basically even though I know the maxima is quicker the accord felt faster running through the gears at wot and hearing that baby v6 sound like a v8. The cvt takes away from the feeling for me too but I guess I should grow up and accept it, I'll prolly grab a drop in anyways

Hmm, Wg2007 you lost me.... "baby V6" sounding like a V8? What V6/V8 cars are you even referring/comparing here?

I have an K&N Drop in Filter and I noticed a very slight difference in sound. It rumbles a bit louder plus my MPG went up like 1 or 2... not much but better then the stock filter IMO...

Jbling I agree with what you stated up to the last sentence, but help me out here. Did you just contradict yourself or what?
You say the K&N added a bit of sound and had a 1-2 ^ in MPG but it's not much better than stock?
Simple math here.....
To me a <$50.00 add on that improves gas mileage is one hell of a lot better than the stock filter, noise or no noise increase aside.

Sorry what I meant to say is, the K&N filer is much better than the stock one IMO LOL I was on my phone doing this from work... I used to have a SRI on my 1995 Altima and I too miss it but since I don't like messing with my warranty (my dealership is a douche bag) I added the K&N and tried it out. My first impression was, a slight rumble, just a tad bit, and since I drive highway miles, it went up 1-2 MPG... I think it was 23 now it's like 24-26 range now.. That's what I noticed... IDK about other people... BUt I would love to have a CAI like Ghozt but IDK how to relocate my battery

EDIT: Sorry I forgot to say I have a racingline y-pipe also...

It's a lease car, so I wouldn't bother.

My bad slight exaggeration but basically I miss the sound of my accord v6 it had a real nice sound between the intake and exhaust, not quite v8 though

Jbling700, that's actually pretty good. Driving city and highway, I'm always calculating a 23 average for mpg. If I saw 25 more often I'd be so happy. Question for you though, how is the racingline ypipe?

I don't want the car any louder but I want more power throughout the rpm band. You think the drop in plus the ypipe is good for what I'm looking for?

Ok guys I'm going to tell you something I used to do with a couple of my past cars & suv's.
Before K & N became popular and a suggestion from my old mechanic guy. I had a 92 Nissan Maxima SE and I pulled the stock air box and drilled holes in certain areas of the airbox.
I did the same thing with my 95 JGC I had with the V8 (318 cid) and that truck was leased so I was careful to drill the holes in the airbox where they wouldn't be noticeable. That's where you get the sound. Later years when the drop in K & N filters came out I did the same thing. Closest your going to get to a CAI without buying one.
The key is to look at the airbox and use the right size drill bit. You don't want to go too small and you don't want to go too big because you don't want suck in a lot of dirt in the box and the filter.

K&N does have a high flow but there's a trade-off, high flow = more chances of debris getting into the engine. I wouldn't want that POS near my MAF anyways. Just my 2 cents. Move along.

Take a look at the AEM version

I just replaced my stock filter at 12k miles and I went with the AEM version since I did not want to deal with the oil requirement of the K&N one and I have heard of potential issues with the oiled filters. From the research I did, the AEM seems to be about the best for the standard air box. If I had a choice I may have gone with an intake system, but currently none of them are legal in my state.

I did notice that the engine was louder with this new filter...

I've been considering the AEM short-ram that came out recently, but it's twice what I'd pay for the r2c one. And now I'm also curious about the AAM one that Ghozt alluded to.
