Extra stitching on seat belt

Hi folks,
New to your site as a member but it has been a valuable resource that helped me decide to pull the trigger on a 2012 SV Premium with all the goodies!
I noticed some extra stitching on the passenger seat belt. It's about a 2" square area a couple of inches from the button that stops the latch. Anyone else have anything like that?

I have that too. It bugged me, so I carefully removed it.

I've got it in my '11. Doesn't bother me.

I was at a dealer today and stopped to check the Max on the lot. All of them had the stitching so it's definitely intentional. Just curious why? Checked manual but no mention.

On my '09, the stitched area actually stops the buckle, which will not slide all the way to the belt button on my car. This keeps the buckle several inches higher while the car is parked and the belt not in use. That makes it much easier for me to reach the buckle when putting on the seat belt. Without this stitched area, the buckle would be behind the corner of my front seat, and I would have to grab the belt and pull on it until the buckle came into view.

I doubt if this is the intended purpose/reason for the stitching. I do know I would never take off any part of any portion of any safety equipment unless I absolutely knew exactly the reason for it being there.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. I believe that was Nissans intension to keep the seat belt tongue from getting caught between the side of the seat and the trim panel like it does on the drivers side. The only part I don't get is why Nissan didn't do this on the drivers side as well. See my thread on "Shoulder strap fix" for an easy fix on the drivers side.

Just my take on why the extra stitching is on the passenger shoulder strap.

That's my only mod so far! Adding the extra stop button on my seat belt. Lol
