Subwoofer Upgrade

Just got a 2012 Maxima SV and I'm thinking of buying a 12" Alpine type r 2ohm sub (1000 watts rms) with an Alpine MRX m-100 amp in a ported box. My cousin is telling me that's too much but idk so I'm asking u guys. What do u think?

Too much as in what? If they mean the car can't handle that much power, it can since I have 1,000 watt amp on my sub. But I did upgrade my battery. If they mean too much volume, you can just adjust the gain to blend in with the interior speakers. Be prepared to purchase a lot of insulation cuz this much power will cause rattles. I rather have more than enough bass so I don't have to worry about upgrading later cuz I'm not satisfied.

Ported boxes are too much for me. I like bass I can feel with sealed boxes. Ported is mostly used for those who listen to mostly hip hop and rap. Sealed is better for all around music since it can keep up with frequency and bass changes vs a ported box keeps the sub "fluttering" in my opinion. And too big of a box since it requires too much volume. And I dynamat wouldn't be a bad idea since you're moving a ton of air.

Would it overpower the original Bose speakers? Also I'm reading a ported box works best with this sub but how much cubic feet? Anybody with knowledge in this area? I don't know much.

There is a possibility it can over power the Bose but if you set the gain properly it will sound fine. The proper port tuning and box size should be in the manual or you could look on the website.

Looked it up. Ported box for a 12 should be 1-1.5 cubic ft tuned to 32-37HZ.

When you set the gain just turn the volume up to 3/4 with bass centered on the bose and slowly turn the gain up till the sub distorts then turn it down slightly. If the bass is too loud for your taste, just keep turning the gain down slightly till you're satisfied.
