Music Box Dropped
Hello Everyone,
I just read on a couple of other forums that Nissan has dropped the music box from all vehicles. I have not had a chance to confirm this at a dealership myself but I no longer see it mentioned on the specs for the Maxima. Here are the forums:

Possible reason: When I worked on the CPM line (dash line) I installed radios in altima's and maxima's....we had tons of problems with the units that had the music box thing. They often didnt work correctly from the manufacturer. This was back in late 08 so I dont know if they ever fixed that or not
PS: We even had some from the manf. that had had glue put on the doors to put them in place....guess what happened when the glue got hot?

Not a big loss anyway. I seem to use my old iPod more than I do CDs to record on my music box. I might as well Put it on my computer then ipod. I'm not saying its not a cool extra feature, but I find that I don't use it.
I loaded a few CD's into it to have some favorite tunes when I forget my iPod or there's nothing I like on XM. I mainly use it for a few songs my kids like.
One of the annoying things about Music Box operation on the 2009 is that it doesn't allow for album selection - have to scroll through a complete album to get to the next one.

The only thing i do not like about my music box is, when i have to switch from Bluetooth to aux i have the music box in between and that takes a few milliseconds of my precious time....

TBA - The way to scroll between albums is via the 'TUNE/FOLDER' ****, which is the fairly large **** on the right side of the radio control portion of the instrumentation panel.
I use my music box every time I am in the car. So very nice to keep all my CDs boxed up at home, yet have the music whenever I want it.
I have answered it already...!
During the production run of the 2012 Maxima, Nissan ran into a standoff while trying to negotiate new terms with the maker of the Music Box, and so dropped it from all vehicles at that time, including the last half of the 2012 Maxima production run.
The reality is that the audio world is beginning to move away from CDs, and other forms of audio would have been featured in Maximas very soon, with the CD option (but no Music Box) still available in the car for old folks like me who treasure their CD collection.
I have greatly enjoyed my Music Box for 3 1/2 years, and will absolutely miss it when I buy my 2015 8th gen Maxima in summer of 2014.
My '12 with Premium and tech packages bought in Feb has the music box, which makes me wonder how long the car was sitting on the lot before I showed up. I like it, but I'm not an iPod fan, being in my 40's.
When I cleaned out my trade, I filled up a shopping bag with CDs as I was cleaning out the various storage areas. It's nice having them all stored on the hard drive now. Still many to load.

It doesn't really matter, but I was just curious that if they dropped the feature in later builds...maybe my car was in the back lot for quite some time. The Maxima sales in my area are pretty dismal compared to Murano and Altima, so I was wondering how long the inventory sits around.
My 12 SV has it. Early monitor packages have it. Funny thing is the sticker says nothing of having it. The dealer says it should not have it without tech package.
We use it on our 2008 Pathfinder LE, no iPod controls on it. 1 disc so far on the Max. We won't use it much there.

When I first heard it was removed when the thread started I was like what the heck, they ought to put the 6 disc back. Then I thought about it. I've only put one disc in my 2012 just to see how the music box works, then I never used either of then again. I honestly would give up the music box, and one of the two 12v power outlets for a second USB and a 115v outlet. I'd use it to charge my phone as I don't have a cigarette lighter charger adapter and my iPod takes up the existing USB port.

Speaking of the Tune/Folder ****, has anyone other than me ever wished this **** and the Volume **** were swapped?
From my view, I seldom use the volume **** on the dash because it's on the steering wheel (as standard, too); I use the Tune **** much more often and for longer periods when tuning XM, etc. I can rest my wrist on the shifter and spin the Volume ****, but have to reach over for the tune ****.
