Front end clunk while accelerating

So I've had this car for 2 weeks now and I'm completely in love. It's a 2011 Sv with monitor and cold weather package. I currently have 2 issues, around 80mph I get a pretty nasty vibration. The entire car shakes. The tires are original as far as I know with 41,000 miles on them and desperately needing replacement so I'm going to get some potenza's probably and have a good balance and alignment done.

My larger issue is a single clunk I get when accelerating (somewhat) quickly from a stop. I have read through some threads about the strut insulators but I'm not sure if my issue is a symptom of that or not. It almost feels like a loose motor mount or transmission mount or subframe. I can feel it in the steering wheel and it is incredibly annoying.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

dont get potenza's as replacement tires, go with something a little better than the RS-A or Potenza OEM options. a lot of people here have good luck with diff tires (almost anything, I love my Hankooks personally) and a quality alignment

not sure about the clunk though, thats a new one for me.

Yeah, stay away from the OEM applications as there are much better tires out there.

Actually the Ultra High Performance All-Season Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position tires are highly rated.

My 2010 SV with monitor package does the same thing (clunk on take-off). It might have done it all along, but I just started noticing it in the past 15,000 miles or so (have 62,000 now). It almost feels like when you shift the transmission into D and start to pull out before it's completely in gear. Kind of like a thud is how I feel it.

Dunno what it is. It drives fine otherwise.

Mine does the clunk every time I take off from a stop sign while leaving home. But doesn't do it after that unless I park the car.

Clunk off accelerating could be the rubber on ur motor mount is bad... U can tell easily if you have someone brake and chNge to drive nd accelerate... The entire engine will lift back towards the windshield... Only happens after a hard stop... This would be questionable on a 41k mile car though... Not out of the question... As far as vibration... If its mainly in the steering wheel it tends to be the front wheels... If its the entire car, mainly feeling it in the seat its the rear wheels... Check tire pressure, balance and if needed alignment... Other then that if it was your tie rod ends or cv joints or bearings it would make noise while your driving.. and turning... Lastly, your steering column could cause a wobble reaction but doesn't seem to be the case here...

Thank you for the information. I'm thinking its subframe mounts, motor/transmission mounts or steering column. Not enough miles or age to be TRE's or control arms. AWD cars eat mounts cause all the torque on the chassis and I didn't have to replace my CA's and TRE's on my s4 until a little after 100,000 miles.

I'll get under the car this weekend and check out all my mounts. If it was in the steering column how would I check that? Whatever it is its one single clunk/thud like weight is being transferred onto a loose mount. The steering column would probably be the hardest thing to replace so let's hope it's not that.

I'm in on the clunk, but usually if I am turning when accelerating from a stop. BUT this does make my car a clunker.

Weirdly, these are my main two complaints with the car right now. Usually once per driving session, near the start, I'll get a clunk with even slight acceleration from a stop. The shaking thing is also occurring, particularly above 70. I assumed it was a wheel balancing issue.

I have the same problem except, my front end suspension sometimes makes a creaking sound when backing up along with the clunk when pulling away from a standing stop.

I'm having these issues as well although the clunk is not very prominent. I've had bad shaking from 65mph up. I've brought it to the dealer once and an independent tire shop to have it balanced. Neither have fixed it. Did anyone have this fixed? If so, what did they do to fix it? I've heard it might need to be balanced on a road force balancer which neither the dealer or the shop had.

Btw, I have a '12 with sport pack that I've only had for a month now (bought new).

This happenedto my 2010 maxi. I first heard the "clunk" two weeks after buying it brand new. Many trips to the stealership who gave lame excuses. They even said it was the maintenance book in the glove box. Had the struts replaced which didnt help. Had road test which " couldn't replicate clunk" Very frustrating. Couldn't stand that noise. Ended up terminating my lease early. My advice is if the stealership wont help get corporate involved.

Similiar thing happened to me when I took it in for the pano roof rattle. Told me it was the water bottle in the armrest compartment

Well the good news is I live in Brentwood. I can throw a rock and hit nissan headquarters. Or I can drive to Smyrna (30 mins) and ask who assembled my car

I just got a 2012 S Limted Edition that now has about 750 miles. I have a clunk too. It is in the transmission and it happens at the beginning of each trip when the car hits 30mph. Once it does it that first time it won't do it again until I shut down and restart the motor. It is in my case obviously normal operation. Is it annoying and should not happen on a car of this caliber? Absolutely! but oh well I guess every model car has their little quirks!

If it is several knocks it's the ABS doing it's self check and is normal. If it's just a single knock, then you have the same problem as us.

The 20-30 MPH clunk is the ABS. My more subtle clunk, from the a dead stop, was apparently covered under a recent TSB. They reflashed the TCM and now it's gone.

I'm having the same problem now. When I reverse and then I do a complete stop, then start driving forward. I actually hear the sound. Would that be the one ? Cause if it is, I rather get it fix right away.

I'm resurrecting this old thread because I'm having the same issues as a lot of the guys on the first page of this thread.

I'm getting a clunk from a dead stop after the car has been sitting for a while (no its the ABS check)

Can the original poster or anyone else on this thread report back what cure the problem?

I have this same issue after reversing then putting it back in gear and accelerating or accelerating from dead stop. I took it into the dealership this week and the only thing they found that was bad were my control arms. Not sure if that is the issue but they were trying to charge me $1000 after labor. lol

I just bought a used 2012 S Limited Edition, and while I don't have the clunk, I DO have the shaking issue at around 65-70 MPH. Anyone had any luck with this? Does balancing the tires help?

Thanks! I look forward to your results.

The dealership where I bought it is going to do a rotation and balance for me whenever I can get back over to them while their service dept is open. Just wanted to know if anyone has had that fix the problem.

I have noticed mine doing the same thing recently. Its a 11 SV Premium with 50k. Anyone find a resolution to this? I only notice it when starting from a dead stop.
