Gas!!!!
Gas!!!!
When are these gas stations getting gas does anybody know?? Had less than empty gas in my max yesterday barely made it home after waiting for 5 hours just to wait for them to run out of gas, took my dads car over to connecticut found a couple of buckets now my max has less than half a tank this superstorm ****ed us all up!!
everyone on this site is not in the same city/location as you... this is the internet. dont travel unless you have to.... try not to run out of gas you might have to abandon your car and than it might get stripped down... you wont be able to get a tow... stay home. you'll have to wait...
Listen to zoemayne.
I'm sure you had a full tank before the storm hit, as, with a full week's warning that the storm was coming, I'm sure everybody topped their tank last week. That tells me you are doing a lot of driving at a time when nobody should be driving. You must accept that life as you know it will not be the same for awhile.
Be aware that running out of gas in the 7th gen Maxima is nothing even close to running out of gas in a 1990 Chevy. The fuel pump in this car is enclosed in the gas tank, and depends on being covered in fuel in order to keep from overheating and failing. Running out of fuel in this car can also mean possibly ruining your catalytic converter, which will cost between $390 and $900 to replace, depending on where the work is done.
Fuel is never available for a period after this type storm, and it may be several more days before most stations have both electricity and a supply of fuel. Stay home and stay as safe as you can. Things will be better for most folks later this week.
But for what will probably be several hundreds of thousands of unlucky folks, their homes will be either not repairable or will require major cleaning and rebuilding, which, in the current situation, could take up to a year for many folks. For such places as Breezy Point, the process could require several years.
We must understand that climatological factors have changed, and we are experiencing '500 year events' every few years now. Also, our ever-increasing population (now around 315 million and rising) means there are homes being built where nothing should be built, and nature will invariably reclaim its territory.

people are panicking.. you probably dont have to go to work and certainly not school so there is not such a need for you to be looking for gas... you probably dont have a generator since you didn't have any spare gas just chill and next time fill up! No offense but I'm pretty sure you didnt fill up. The way the news sensationalizes this storm, I hate.. makes people not take them seriously. take the opportunity to spend some time w family thats what i always look forward to after the storm.
I feel your pain. I lived in sw Louisiana when hurricane Rita came to visit. We evacuated and were not allowed to go home for over a week. Then we could only go in for a "look and leave". Luckily we had a generator but they need fuel too. I tried the siphon from my vehicles but to no avail. Power was not restored for about two weeks. Tremendous devastation, never want to go through that again. That was in 2005 and the town I lived in has recovered and only those that live there can tell how much damage was done. I know it is bad but it will get better. Good luck and God bless.

That's a pretty arrogant set of assumptions. You have no idea what this guy does for a living, how far he works from home, or if he was topped off.
The Maxima is not exactly a Prius or Volt in terms of consumption. If this guys works 45 miles from work like I do, he's going to need a fill up every 4 days or so. I filled up completely and despite not driving for several days, carpooling, and being very conservative in my driving habits have less than a 1/2 tank.
And it's pretty rude to say he doesn't need to work. If you office is open, you go to work or take vacation if you have it, or unpaid leave if not.
It's not a panic, it's reality. If you cant get to work you cant earn a living. There are severe shortages in NJ and on Long Island where I live in part because the Port of NY was closed to shipping. The distribution terminals were damaged, and the east coast refineries were damaged or slowed production. The stations that have power run of of fuel quickly because there is so much more demand that their supplies don't last.
Driving to work near Commack, LI I saw a Citgo station with a short line. Waited 30 minutes and filled up with REGULAR because that's all they had. Kept driving to work after and saw another gas station with a longer line (but not as bad as it's been)
**Citgo (Corner of Crooked Hill Rd & Commack RD, Commack)
**Unknown Station (Corner of Crooked Hill RD & LIE WestBound Service Rd Commack)
