Engine "Tapping" sound at idle

We have a 1 year old 2011 Maxima. Recently, we've noticed a "tapping" sound coming from the engine at idle speed. We brought it to the dealership and they diagnosed the "number one bearing needs to be replaced". Is this a common problem with the Maxima, and if so, will the other 5 bearings eventually need to be replaced?

The VQ35DE is notorious for having noisy injectors. My Max is the third VQ35DE I have had, the others being a 350Z and a G35...also have belonged to car clubs for each of those cars so have definietely spent my fair share of time around this motor...they all have noisy injectors, including my brand new Max with 750 miles. I'm not saying there is nothing wrong with yours because I have not heard your version of the tapping noise but my whole point is that the injectors in these motors are notoriously noisy so don't mistake that with a real problem.

The mechanic at the dealership didn't offer any opinion about the tapping being related to noisy injectors. Also, this tapping issue only started about a month ago, and is intermittent. Would noisy injectors start making noise after about a year, or would it be consistent from when it was new? The car should be repaired by tomorrow. We'll see if replacing the #1 bearing fixed the tapping. I'll let ya'll know.

if you guys are talking about the "bump bump bump bump bump" that happens shortly after getting in the car and driving, that is a self-check the car is doing and is normal operation.

Yes the injectors are noisy right from the get go but sounds like you have an unrelated problem.

As for the bump bump bump...have never experienced thr one yet...

This should be interesting, I'd be willing to bet the noise does not go away after this repair just something years of being a tech taught me

The "tapping" sound only occurs at idle. The dealership said they have not had problems with the other bearings. The service bulletin from Nissan only calls for the #1 bearing to be replaced. I'll be picking the car up today. I'll let you guys AND THE DEALERSHIP know if it happens again. Thanks for the suggestions and help.

try searching this forum for "clunk noise" or "weird noise" and you'll find lots of great information about this. or try asking a Nissan master tech sometime, occasionally you run into one who isn't a moron.

My whole engine was ripped apart and ending up requiring a short block replacement.

My 2012 makes the same constant ticking at idle. Had dealer check and was told it was the injectors. Again, now that issues is documented in case it changes.
